“The way that Brazil has treated former President Bolsonaro, a Highly Respected Leader throughout the World during his Term, including by the United States, is an international disgrace,” Trump wrote Wednesday in a letter to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. “This Trial should not be taking place. It is a Witch Hunt that should end IMMEDIATELY!”

"Last year, the U.S. trade surplus with Brazil reached $6.8 billion."

The Brazilian government is holding a former presdient accoutnable for his actions. Apparently, that's too much for Donald Trump to swallow.

...so Trump would have American busineess and consumers pay a 50% tax on their Brazilian coffee because he disagrees with a judicial proceeding in Brazil?

If the president really felt there was some injustice going on, I think the usual step would be targeted sanctions of some sort. But Trump's favorite hammer is tariffs and now anything he doesn't like looks like a nail.

Trump will keep wielding his tariff sword...until (if?) a court stops him.

Ted Murphy, a co-leader of the trade practice at the law firm Sidley Austin, said it was not clear “what authority” the White House might cite to impose a 50 percent tariff on Brazilian goods on the basis of that country’s treatment of Mr. Bolsonaro.

“Is a Brazilian political issue a threat to U.S. economic or national security?” Mr. Murphy asked, before offering an answer: “That seems like a bridge too far.”

At least he didn't order the CIA to assasinate the current president and install Bolsonaro as dictator.

Why assasinate when you can punish an entire country---and the American coffeee drinker?

Ever seen the movie The Beekeeper? The hive was in danger, and so the Beekeeper has to come and remove all the queen bees who produce faulty males. Everywhere.

Donald Trump is the beekeeper.

What?

How does removing extra queen bees with faulty males relate to either the Bolsinaro situation or the movie?

But the movie is about the president's son being a greedy crook, so I guess it's got some applicability.
