An Australian doctor received the "Life Saving Cross" for his work in saving the life of a Lithuanian adventurer when he amputated one leg underwater in the Franklin River in Tasmania. He accepted it on behalf of everybody else who was involved in the rescue.

Hero doctor receives Lithuanian award after Franklin River rescue
A doctor who amputated the leg of a Lithuanian rafter to free him from rapids in Tasmania's Franklin River has been awarded the Life Saving Cross in Vilnius.

The Lithuanian bloke is tough. He still wants to go back and do the Franklin River trip again, even if he's mssing part of one leg.Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda presented Jorian "Jo" Kippax with the Life Saving Cross at the presidential palace in the country's capital on July 6, the country's Statehood Day.
