Real Kinder Surprise Eggs are egg shaped hard chocolate, thin shell, inner is a creamy-flavored hard chocolate that looks like white chocolate, outside is milk chocolate. Inside is a capsule like a non-rounded pill shape about the size of two thumbs. Inside was a toy.
10-15ish years ago (and very briefly), they had them in the US. The inside was a full egg size capsule with a ridge that divided the chocolate into two pieces so it wasn’t ~*technically*~ fully encased in the chocolate, making it “legal.” Not sure what happened to those, but wouldn’t be surprised if they were banned as well for following the letter but not clearly defined intent of the law. Not sure if those were also called “Surprise” or “Joy” Kinder Eggs, but I remember they did have something on them that denoted they were the US version with the US toys.
