I’ve been trying to grow in consistency with prayer and Bible time, but my phone notifications and random scrolling often derail me. I wanted to share something that’s been helping me in case it helps someone else too.

It’s an app called Holy Focus. It blocks distractions while showing a Bible verse or short prayer on your screen. It’s helped me stay off social media in the mornings and actually spend time with God before the chaos of the day.

I’m curious if anyone else here uses apps or tech tools for spiritual discipline. What’s helped you stay consistent with prayer and Scripture without getting pulled into the noise?

I made a point of reading the bible in 40 days years ago, i took notes to ensure I'd retain the information. What I remember from it was remembering the beginning when I reached the end helped remembering what referred to what.

After that though, my subconscious made it difficult to do again, so I purchased an audio bible and played it on Auto Repeat which was a faster mode of consumption of the bible.

At this point my "flesh consciousness" was really going insane and wanted it to stop, but I kept going anyway. Those were crazy days. But to answer your question:

Maybe invest in an audio bible
, the brain can easily make you feel sleepy when it wants to rebel, but the subconscious still retains things it hears while asleep so that might help too.

Furthermore, it is important to note that developing the spiritual person through faith living is more important than any discipline. Once the born again person outgrows the memories of the old person, doing God things becomes easier, though there will always be challenges.

I put my phone far far far away from me when I pray. I never got distracted.
Can't you do the same, or switch off the phone?

That’s really inspiring, especially your commitment to push through even when your mind wanted to rebel. I love the idea of using an audio Bible on repeat. It’s true, we can take in more than we realize even when we’re resting. And you’re right, growing the spiritual person is the deeper goal beyond the discipline itself. I’m encouraged by how you framed that, and I appreciate the reminder that it’s a process of outgrowing the old ways as we walk with God.

Putting the phone far away is definitely the simplest and most effective solution. I’ve tried switching it off too, but sometimes I use my Bible app or note down reflections, so that’s when the distractions creep in.

I’m working on building that discipline, and I appreciate the reminder that sometimes the best tech solution is just stepping away from the tech entirely!
