I should go find those threads where Trump supporters were telling us how important it is to bring down the national debt.

I'm sure none of them are here in this thread cheering for this bill.

Isn't what a little late? If you're referring to my reply, this thread was just started a bit past noon today, so no, how is it a bit late? If you are referring to something/someone else being late and desperate, please clarify.

Who are you accusing of attempting to "obscure the great win", me, the OP, Jeffries or Vance? I have yet to see Vance reading the text which is from whom again?

Uh-huh, "assumed".... How would I know that whatever I find is the one you watched? Seems like a fool's errand to look for more than a minute, which I did, but I was hoping that since you referred to "the" video that you had one particular video in mind. Did you watch the whole eight hours live? If so, congrats, that's quite a feat!
This is still America, where everyone has a right to express his opinion about legislation and the state of our fractured Union. I did not listen to Representative Jeffries but I applaud his efforts on behalf of the uninsured and hungry children.
Why would someone like me, who with my husband will get an additional $12,000 senior tax deduction next year, still feel that this bill hurts the innocent? Why would I gladly give up that $12,000 tax deduction so that others could live a decent life? That used to be the American way. Those are the lessons I learned from the gospel as a child, that God is in every human being and that we are to love our neighbors.
In 2020, President Biden said he was running to save America's soul. On November 5, 2024, and with the passage of this bill, I believe we have lost this battle. I live in a part of the country where there are little Evangelical churches in towns with 25 people, and every mile or so in the larger towns like mine, but they have different values than what I learned as a child from Dominican sisters. How can Americans be more upset about a lone person struggling with gender identity going into a lady's room then they can be about 17 million people with no Healthcare?

Who was the GOP representative that changed their vote on a bill only because a colleague filibustered? That’s not a very reliable politician if you ask me.

There’s not too many who were holding out. Who do you think it was?
Sorry you are disappointed that Republicans vote with Republicans. That is something you should understand Democrats always vote in lock step.

Because you obviously believe the lies of the left. Who are the innocents you refer to ? Is it the people who broke the law to be here or is it the people who have scammed the system and do not deserve the benefits?

No but I watched enough to see that Jeffries was just showboating and delaying. What I called worship was the waving if what looked like handkerchiefs and Democrats surrounding Jeffries with adulation and rock star like attention. Quite funny actually. It was really bad when he started preaching on faith and quoting scripture to demean Republicans.

If your media sources say that the federal government will be able to save $900 million only from people who broke the law or scammed the system being taken off Medicare, they are either saying 1) that $900 million won't be saved---just added to our massive national debt or 2) that $900 million will be saved but most of the people removed will be innocent.

If your media sources say that the federal government will be able to deport 3,000 people a day--all of them murderers, drug dealers, or gang members, they are saying that many, many, many innocent people will be deported, but that we will be told they are all murderers, drug dealers, or gang members. The only way ICE can get 3,000 people a day (Steven Miller's quota) is by going after the "low-hanging fruit," hanging out outside churches, courthouses where people get green cards, shopping centers, etc.

Perhaps he was trying to educate Congress about the 2,000 quotes in scripture regarding how we should treat the poor. When all he hears from the opposing party is anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-abortion rhetoric--with nary a word about the poor--he must have believed that some education was in order.

Most of the people that are going to be hurt by the passing of this bill are not those who entered the country illegally or those scamming the system. If that's what you believe, then it you that has been lied to.

No thanks for any religious education from Jeffries. He was just killing time with the script handed him in the several notebooks he used during his delay tactics.

He could have read anything but he chose to read passages from the Bible. I think perhaps he did so because there seems to be so much violence in our country now, especially towards immigrants. The alligator Alcatraz will become a death trap if a hurricane greater than level 2 hits the Everglades. As you know, most of the Hurricanes hitting Florida are over level 2. No one is even occupying this hastily put together facility and there is already widespread flooding. If people treated dogs or cats that way they would be arrested for abuse. And describing Medicaid recipients as lazy is really trying to get the listener to look at them as somewhat less than human.
If we dehumanize the poor and immigrants, we lose our own humanity. We are made in the image and likeness of God, every one of us, but when we dehumanize others we also dehumanize ourselves.

Hakeem Jeffries is also a very slow and boring speaker to attempt to try to listen to.
Listening to the whole thing should become the latest TikTok challenge.

That would be because they're in all the other threads about it. Including the ones they started.

The reason Jeffries spoke 8 hours in the dead of night, apparently, was to force each Republican member of the House to make their shameful, callous vote in broad daylight. The bill is apparently the most unpopular in history. Jeffries wanted to put a face on who the ones who deserved to be unpopular are.

Here's an interesting poll to that effect:
The share of Americans who say they’re “extremely” or “very” proud to be an American slipped 9 percentage points from last year, falling to the lowest level ever recorded by Gallup.

In the Gallup poll released days before the Fourth of July, 58 percent of Americans expressed enthusiastic pride in their national identity, down from the 67 percent recorded in the 2024 survey.
Enthusiastic national pride among Democrats declined dramatically during President Trump’s first administration, with the previous record-low of 42 percent seen in 2020. After former President Biden took office, that percentage ticked up to 62 percent, before declining to the low 50s in 2022 and 2023, and rebounding to 62 percent in 2024.
Pollsters also just recorded a record-low share of independents who say they are “extremely” or “very” proud to be American, with that percentage falling to 53 percent from 60 percent last year. The group’s sentiment has seen a more stable decline over the years than Democrats.

Apparently the drop in pride is greatest among young people and independents. I understand, admire their judgment, and hope that someday soon we will once again have leaders we can trust, believe, and be proud of.

Perhaps, one day, the leaders of the Democratic Party might possibly be ones we can trust, believe, and be proud of. IMO, it is possible but very doubtful.

Absolutely false! Votes are recorded for each House member. It is public record. Nobody voted in secret it was a recorded vote not a voice vote. Jeffries was just grandstanding and delaying. Many times repeating phrases 3 or 4 times just to kill time. Oh yeah then there is that longest speech record. Give the man a trophy.

You have to pick just one thread to be in? No one told me!
The point is there are plenty of Trump supporters on CF extolling the bill and celebrating that it passed. In fact this thread was started by a Trump supporter.
