  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A male priest can represent Jesus at the Last Supper on Sunday.

A woman priest can represent the Holy Spirit on Saturday.

Sunflowers show adoration because they turn to follow the Sun.

A woman priest at Saturday Mass,
can hold up a Sunflower and say

We adore you Jesus.

We love you Jesus.

So why do most Jews adhere to Saturday as the Sabbath ?

If you believe in Christian churches having priests, and if you believe that those priests represent Christ, then surely they are Christ's representatives at all times, not just one day a week. I have never heard of priests representing the Holy Spirit. And why cannot a man hold up a sunflower as an illustration of adoring Jesus?

In the bible, all Christians are described as priests:

“John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Re 1:4-6 NKJV)

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” (1Pe 2:9 NKJV)

Using two different days of the week
means that Sunday Mass would remain the same.
Well, not being a Roman Catholic, I don't understand why Mass shouldn't be the same which ever day it happens.

If you don’t like using Saturday for it.

How about Monday ?
I know of an Episcopal convent that has Monday as their day of rest. I think they’re located in New Jersey.

Sunday never felt like a day of rest for us. When we began celebrating shabbat on Friday evenings we noticed a shift internally and a natural slowing occurred. We plan our week intentionally to support the same. Fridays and Saturdays are always relaxed and Sunday is the time for planning and preparation for the week ahead.

Saturday is the Sabbath and is the seventh day of the week. Exo 20:10

Saturday literally translates into the Sabbath in most ancient languages. https://manna.amazingfacts.org/amazingfacts/website/sabbathtruth/documents/chart-of-the-week.pdf

We trace the weekly cycle right back to Creation Gen 2:1-3

Jesus rose on the first day Mark 16:9 and rested on the seventh day Sabbath even in death Luke 23:50

Regardless what man has done to the calendar Sunday will always be the first day and the seventh day will always be the Sabbath

I'm personally undecided about the whole Sunday vs Saturday thing, and I think both sides make good arguments for their position.

I guess in practice, I'm on the Sunday say due to it being more practical (there's a lot more churches that meet on Sundays than Saturdays.)

Jesus rose on the first day of the week. That is the justification for Christians worshipping on Sunday.

Fun fact: before the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem in 70 AD, many Christians still attended synagogue on the sabbath and celebrated the Lord’s Supper on Sunday. Until then, Christianity was a sect of Judaism.

After the 2nd temples destruction, Judaism and Christianity essentially went their separate ways.

Keep praying and reading your Bible. :) God’s word is to be the light to our path Psa 119:105 not what the majority does.

I believe staying faithful to what God says is what we should do. God never said His people would be the majority Rev12:17

God never blessed or sanctified any other day but the Sabbath. Only God has the power to bless and only God has the power to sanctity a day or mankind and God Himself relates both to the seventh day Sabbath Gen2:3 Exo20:11 Isa 56:2 Eze20:12

There is no such thing as day one being the Lords Day, this is a man-made teaching.

I believe God is capable of speaking for Himself and even asked that no one speak or alter His words.

Exo 20:10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord
Isa 58:13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
Mark2:28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”
Mal 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;

We were warned one would try to change God’s times and laws Dan7:25 which is the Sabbath commandment- that God Himself wrote. There is a clear history of God’s Sabbath being changed and who changed it

If really looking and studying the Scriptures and obeying God over man which is what the apostles told us to do, there is only one right answer to this.

It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.
—Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.

Question: Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.
—Rev. Peter Geiermann C.SS.R., The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50

... you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.
—The Faith of Our Fathers, by James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, 88th edition, page 89. Originally published in 1876, republished and Copyright 1980 by TAN Books and Publishers, Inc., pages 72-73.
Sunday is a Catholic institution, and... can be defended only on Catholic principles.... From beginning to end of Scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first.
—Catholic Press, Aug. 25, 1900

Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.
—C. F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons, in answer to a letter regarding the change of the Sabbath, November 11, 1895.

Where did Jesus say to do this after His resurrection? His disciples who followed Him everywhere kept the Sabbath after His death according to His commandment Luke23:56 and they were the first to see Jesus when He rose. Jesus never said a word to them that they no longer need to keep the Sabbath commandment or to anyone for that matter. He warned us before His death heaven and earth would pass before one jot or tittle would pass from His law- heaven and earth are still here. Mat5:18-19 so are His commandments Rev 14:12 Rev22:14
Fun fact: before the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem in 70 AD, many Christians still attended synagogue on the sabbath and celebrated the Lord’s Supper on Sunday. Until then, Christianity was a sect of Judaism.
Could you support these statements by Scripture please? The Scripture shows a one time gathering on the first day with the apostles in Acts 20:7 which was a Saturday night after sunset to break bread which means have a meal. They tell us why they came together because Paul was going on a long mission trip in the morning (Sunday). This passage does not say anything about the Lords supper. I can’t find the Lords supper on day one in my bible, would you please point that out?

Christians who kept the Sabbath as Jesus indicated by both Jews and Gentiles Isa 56:6-7 as we see Acts 13:42 Acts 13:44 Acts 15:21 Acts 18:4 never became sects of Jews. A Christian means being a follower of Christ. Jesus kept the Sabbath Luke4:16 so a Christian is a Sabbath-keeper and Christ follower 1John2:6 Jesus made the Sabbath for mankind Mark2:27 mankind was made before Jew, before Gentile, just God and man.

Acts 20:7 mentions the first day of the week. (Sunday).
Luke 23:56 is literally the next day after the death of Jesus Christ, after He ratified His covenant at the Cross. Jesus never mentioned to anyone about a change in one of His commandments after His death. His faithful followers were still keeping the Sabbath after His death and were the first to see Him after He rose, Jesus never mentioned one word about any change. He already promised He would not Psa89:34 Mat5:18-19

Acts 20:7 is almost thirty years later. It was also a one time meeting where the apostles came together to eat on Saturday night (day1- days starts at night in Scripture) and they say it was because Paul was going on a trip the next morning. I do things in my life every day of the week, just as most people. just as the disciples did. It says nothing about it being a new Sabbath, a new day of worship, a new commandment- we need God for that. Only God can sanctify a day or sanctify us- He related both to the seventh day Sabbath Eze20:12 Exo20:11 Gen2:3. In order to make a change to God's covenant, that He told us to hold fast to Isa 56:6-7 it would require the blood of Jesus all over again. He died for us once and for all Heb10:10
