No difference. Plenty of links on both sides. https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2255&context=agecon_cornhusker

Technically, how much of the tariff a consumer pays depends on the elasticity of the good. An elastic good is price sensitive and consumers will buy far less as the price rises. In this case the producer may absorb some of the tariff tax. An inelastic good means if prices rise consumers still buy it. The tariffs on drugs will be like that.
What goes unreported often are how many companies maintain their profit margin. IF I have a profit margin of 10%, if the product is 100 dollars I make 10 dollars. If the tariff brings the product to 150 dollars I now prefer to make 15 dollars to maintain my profit margin. So likely I am going to raise the price even higher in addition to the tariff.
Another wrinkle in the tariff scenario is what happens to prices of domestic manufacturers when suppliers cut foreign shipments? These domestic companies face less competition and they also respond to their new found demand by raising prices. This often then becomes a windfall for the domestic firms though they may not rise as much as the tariffs so they can increase market share.
In all, if the tariff tax is raising 75 billion or whatever the number is you can be sure that the actual tax is much higher because of these responses. Economists point out too that there is a deadweight loss on products with tariffs because the shift in pricing no longer means that the most efficient producer is the source of the product.
The USA would be smart to maintain as free and as fair of trade as possible. To base fairness on the trade deficit with any particular nation is poor economics though, a nation would have to dig further into the details to understand the effects of another nation's trade restrictions and policies versus their own.
Bessent is saying that inflation is very low, that there are little effects from tariffs. That is true but most of the tariff costs are being delayed through existing inventories, a pause on certain tariffs and some producers at the moment are going to absorb the cost. It is certain though that the effects are soon to show up more in less product choices, reduced overall world GDP growth and future price increases.

Unsubstantiated?

Do you not understand how tariffs work?
Yes, unsubstantiated. Do you know the definition of the word?

An unsubstantiated claim is a statement that has not been proven to be true or valid. It lacks supporting evidence or verification, making it essentially an assertion

How far back do we have to go with making our arguments before we can just assume/expect that people understand the definitions of words? For example, your statement, "An unsubstantiated claim is a statement that has not been proven to be true or valid." is, itself, unsubstantiated because you haven't provided a citation for this definition. Should I just toss out this claim of yours?

During this period, the US GDP decreased by 0.3%, equivalent to $83 billion. In other words, we gained $73 billion but lost $83 billion.

American importers and exporters pay the tariffs. That money is paid by American companies. It's a tax on American business. It's passed to consumers:

That is fact.

97.5% of things stated on an internet board as fact - when not supported - are in fact not accurate

And you are in that 97.5 percentile. I just edited my post in support. I mean but really, do you not understand tariffs in the end are paid by consumers?

There you go again, being smarmy when you're the one making a stupid argument.

"I was unaware English is not your first language" is exactly my point. You claimed that an earlier statement was "unsubstantiated", when the only thing it relied upon was a basic understanding of how tariffs work.

So, is English not your first language? Or, to reiterate my earlier question - "Do you not understand how tariffs work?"

Absent any other negotiations, tariffs in the US are paid by the importer, to Customs & Border Patrol, when an item comes into the country. If they're paid by the importer, that means that it's somebody on the US side (i.e. an American, or at least somebody doing business in the US) who's paying for it.

That's so cute - you say I am smarmy and then you call me stupid.

How much has your spending gone up?

Groceries are about the same:

In 2025, overall food prices are anticipated to rise at about the historical average rate of growth. In 2025, prices for all food are predicted to increase 2.9 percent, with a prediction interval of 1.6 to 4.1 percent. Food-at-home prices are predicted to increase 2.1 percent, with a prediction interval of 0.3 to 4.0 percent. Food-away-from-home prices are predicted to increase 4.0 percent, with a prediction interval of 3.2 to 4.7 percent.

Fuel Prices have dropped:

Memorial Day weekend gas prices could be cheapest since 2021

That was before the Israel/Iran conflict which has raised cost - not tariffs.

Please share with me where the price increases are and how much.

I didn’t say you were stupid. I said your argument was stupid. Somebody for whom English was their first language should’ve been able to both make that distinction and realize that the rest of your post was irrelevant.
