A man has appeared in court accused of the sexual assault and murder of a 13-month-old baby boy he was adopting.

Teacher Jamie Varley is also accused of multiple counts of assault, cruelty and indecent images all relating to the baby, Preston Davey.

The 36-year-old was in the process of adopting Preston along with co-accused John McGowan-Fazakerley, 31, who also appeared in court.

Varley spoke only to confirm his identity during the brief, five-minute hearing at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

My wife and I adopted both our children. We did not have our children placed in our arms until EVERYTHING was completed. Background checks, fingerprints, processing fees etc … Only after EVERYTHING was signed and paid in full did we have our beautiful daughters of China placed in our arms. How does his even happen?

Raping a 13 month old baby to his death is just beyond the pale for me. I recall another same sex couple that adopted 2 boys and used them for sex toys and even passed them among other pedophiles. I have no idea how this happens. But it needs to stop.
