LA Police Chief McDonnell:
In his statement on Monday, McDonnell said that the arrival of federal military forces in LA, without “clear coordination,” would present “a significant logistical and operational challenge for those of us charged with safeguarding this city.”
“The Los Angeles Police Department, alongside our mutual aid partners, have decades of experience managing large-scale public demonstrations, and we remain confident in our ability to do so professionally and effectively,” he said.
“That said, our top priority is the safety of both the public and the officers on the ground.
LA has 9,000 police...and before Trump sent in his troops there had been 120 mostly peaceful protesters, 50 arrests.
From Mayor Karen Bass:
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass spoke to KTLA on Sunday morning to discuss the protests over ICE raids taking place throughout the city and greater L.A. area as well as the response from federal officials, including President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy thousands of National Guard troops.
“I’m very disappointed that [Trump] chose to [deploy the National Guard] because it was just not necessary,” Bass said in a phone interview.
The mayor continued on to say that she was told there were about 120 protesters in downtown L.A. Saturday night, some of whom “committed acts of vandalism,” but nothing that the Los Angeles Police Department couldn’t handle, she said.
How would you feel if someone 3000 miles away who has only listened to 12 briefings from federal law enforcement--the experts, the ones who know the facts--invaded your city as a massive publicity stunt, exacerbating the damage in the hopes of fanning the flames of hatred in our one nation under God.
Here's what God says about hatemongering--like the hatemongering the president indulges in to drive fear and anger--and get votes:
Proverbs 10:12, “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.”
Before you say the 120 peaceful protesters were the "haters," try to think of one kind word---just one kind word---that you have heard out of the president's mouth. I can think of one...he expressed sorrow at President Biden's cancer (or his PR person did on truth social) but hours later claimed Biden had died in 2020 and was replaced by an AI robot... so the kind word, which someone else might have authored, doesn't count.
