What Trump means is that he is afraid of what Elon musk's money might do to influence people to stop being Trump puppets. And to that I say yippee.

Musk's problem is he's now disliked by both sides. With the way he suddenly backstabbed the politician he was enthusiastically supporting, who's going to trust him now?
You mean Musk told the truth about Trump. And now Trumps supporters are mad about it. Musk only said what everyone, but Trump supporters all ready know.

They already know it. They just don't care so long as Trump keeps hurting people they don't like.
Trump supporters will also be hurt.

Responding to Musk, Steve Bannon tweeted on Friday morning that, uh, nevermind. Totally unprintable.
Musk also said something unprintable about Trump. Trump responded with something unprintable.

But I wouldn't be surprised if individual candidates did.
Also, first we are talking about Musk supporting primary challenges. Then, Musk might consider spending money to defeat Republicans through running an independent candidate. Indirectly supporting Democrats (probably though a PAC) is finally a last step in defeating candidates who were the difference in the passage of the bill in the House.

Musk isn’t telling “the truth.” He’s saying whatever suits him at the moment. Sometimes, that comports with reality; often, it doesn’t.

Battle of the Barnums! As in P. T. Barnum the late, great marketeer-cum-huckster.

good sound bite!

IMO,

Musk believes that government should do much, much less and safety net programs should be seriously cut.

Musk believes that there should be a major tax increase on the rich and that the previous tax cuts should be continued.

Musk believes that the federal debt is a threat to his businesses and to the world economy.

Musk believes that tariffs are terrible and a threat to his business and to the world economy.

Musk believes that Trump has no understanding of the effect of tariffs on the world economy.

Trump truly believes that the best idea is for him to set prices and that tariffs help the economy as a whole.

I am reminded of Bill Buckley's idea of the government's interference in markets.

He gave the example of Switzerland. He believed that the government should stand aside and allow the free market to operate as it does there.

BTW, there are occasions when tariffs could be reasonably imposed: as punishment, or to restrict the flow of technology, or to protect a strategic US industry.

That argument can be made for aluminum, rare earths, steel, and chips. Much better would be to make deals with the countries that are key for these items, especially China, Canada and the UK. Also, promoting the building of plants in the US is one of Trump's best ideas (working with Japan and South Korea).
