But why? Perhaps because destroying government from the inside is the go-to tactic this time.

His career blastoff came quickly. A year after graduation, the 22-year-old with no apparent national security expertise is now a Department of Homeland Security official overseeing the government’s main hub for terrorism prevention, including an $18 million grant program intended to help communities combat violent extremism.

The White House appointed Fugate, a former Trump campaign worker who interned at the hard-right Heritage Foundation, to a Homeland Security role that was expanded to include the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships. Known as CP3, the office has led nationwide efforts to prevent hate-fueled attacks, school shootings and other forms of targeted violence.

Fugate’s appointment is the latest shock for an office that has been decimated since President Donald Trump returned to the White House and began remaking national security to give it a laser focus on immigration.

Maybe why:
In these circles, two main theories have emerged to explain Fugate’s unusual ascent. One is that the Trump administration rewarded a Gen Z campaign worker with a resume-boosting title that comes with little real power because the office is in shambles.

The other is that the White House installed Fugate to oversee a pivot away from traditional counterterrorism lanes and to steer resources toward MAGA-friendly sheriffs and border security projects before eventually shuttering operations. In this scenario, Fugate was described as “a minder” and “a babysitter.”

I thought that this was common knowledge: https://www.npr.org/2011/10/10/141164708/brain-maturity-extends-well-beyond-teen-years

'...critical parts of the brain involved in decision-making are not fully developed until years later at age 25 or so.'

But I'm sure that his experience gained in his jobs listed in LinkedIn (now deleted) such as mowing his neighbours' lawns and working in a grocery store will help keep y'all safe.

Why? The Trump administration is basically out of options in filling positions across all sectors including judicial positions. Fugate has proven himself as an extream loyalist so from his low level position in the DHS he rapidly ascended to this high position. It's basically the only criteria needed in this administration. Unwavering loyalty.
We shouldn't be surprised. More to come.

I think some maga people are secretly concerned about terrible decisions like this. I understand how its personally difficult to come out and say so.

Others keep a small cabinet in the back of their brain where they stuff these concerns, only to be opened briefly in nervous private moments.

Most tho have gotten pretty good at deflecting these impacts altogether.

Terrorist attacks are the excuse the GOP needs to grab power, just like after 9/11.
That's actually a theory on Trump's Path Forward to a third term is to have a proper terrorist threat/action to justify military law. Under military law, supposedly, elections can be suspended. While this may be a fringe theory, it does explain Fugate's unusual and inappropriate appointment.

Don't worry about his n00b status: he won't be able to do any damage. Or any prevention of terrorism.

Trump administration to end DHS program designed to thwart terror attacks

The $18 million program aims to prevent lone-wolf attacks like the ones that recently occurred in Boulder, Washington, D.C., New Orleans and New York.

The program, formally known as the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program, recently drew scrutiny when ProPublica published an article about Braniff’s successor, a 22-year-old former Trump campaign worker with no relevant experience.

But the larger issue, experts say, is that the program is being zeroed out. They call that a short-sighted decision in an era when alienated loners are attempting mass violence attacks at a greater frequency than ever.
