You can't do just USA context. To do so is myopic and narrow minded. There is a political agenda at play and its to paint white people as STILL the baddies. And those that blame whites solely for slavery need that in order to show hiw whites are worse than everyone else and are to blame for all supposed racial problems in the US. They are desperate to paint the US as a bastion of racism and oppression and whites as the oppressors TODAY. That can't be done without blaming whites only for slavery.

There is an agenda here.

I'd disagree with the "you can't do just USA" statement. You absolutely can. When talking about the USA and it's history. Africa and other places don't really matter when it comes to who were the people in power in the States and who were the slaves. It wasn't African slave traders holding the figurative and perhaps literal leash in the USA. And when talking about the USA, it is Caucasians to blame, because they are the people who bought those slaves, the people selling didn't force them nor did anyone else still using slavery at that point. And the effects of the racism caused by said slavery continued well after the 13th.

Responsibility is different than criticism of past actions as well as praise for past actions. We can criticize the institution of slavery around the world. We can also praise the west for working to end it.

Being responsible to pay in some fashion for something someone else actually did is unjust. Being held responsible for actions that are occurring now or actions that have just occurred due to your direct action is just. If a country was currently enslaving its population then certainly they would be responsible for fixing it.

Or if a country attacks another without provocation then that country is responsible for what happens to it as a result of its current actions. The Italians are no longer responsible to fix any issues or damages it caused when Rome conquered so much of the western world and middle east.

You absolutely can say the Africans were as responsible as the Americans. If they were not enslaving people and selling them then America wouldn't have had the slaves. It could equally be said the the Africans would not have enslaved its people and sold them for greed if America wasnt buying.

This is an EQUAL problem. This is what I am getting at.

There are more languages but these are the official nine. English, Afrikaans, and SA sign language are also official languages making the list 12.

I worked with a white South African years ago who could speak Xhosa. Just the wierdest thing to hear. I was good friends with his son, who could speak Africaan. He and his family were going to go to work in Amsterdam so he started to brush up his Dutch. He found it quite easy because the languages are so similar. Much like Portugese and Spanish I guess.

Yeah, that’s what I heard as well. I’ve heard Dutch is the closest language to English, but I don’t know if that’s accurate.

Apparently it's Frisian, which is spoken in the Netherlands, although its Old English and Old Frisian which resemble each other, so they've turned into completely different languages. It is Dutch when it comes to major languages, but you'd have to go even further back to find a common ancestor.

I've been to Friesland (Fryslân) and I couldn't tell which language was closer (Frisian or Nederlands), but that's probably because I am not a linguist.
