  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A co-founder of the ice cream maker Ben & Jerry’s was arrested Wednesday at a Senate committee hearing that included testimony from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Capitol Police.

Ben Cohen was one of seven people who were arrested at the hearing held by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, the spokesperson said.

Footage from the incident shows several protesters standing and brandishing signs with one shouting, “RFK kills people with AIDS,”

Just this morning I was watching il Giro and I couldnt believe it.... these protestors with a banner and tape ran out right in front the 2 man break, with the peloton just a dozen seconds behind. This was in Napoli just a few kms from the finish line. Total jerks! (Though I have to admit Im curious as to what was on their banner. I probly shouldnt reward them by trying to find out. But I cant help it.)

I think in a few of these cases, it's perhaps a little irresponsible for these uber rich guys to be setting this kind of example or organizing these types of antics for a group of people.

Not because they don't have a right to protest just like everyone else, but because they're less likely to feel the same type of consequences as the people they're encouraging.

Ben Cohen is a multi-millionaire with lawyers on retainer and can probably post bail for himself in 5 minutes with what's in his checking account, and a blemish on his criminal record isn't going to hurt his financial prospects in the slightest, he's already made his money.

The other people "feeling inspired" to go in there and do that with him likely aren't in that same situation.

For a few of the others, a few years down the road when they're going for a job interview and they do a background check
"It says here you were arrested for disorderly conduct on federal property and barging into a senate hearing?"

Doesnt a modern protest involve gluing yourself to something?
Ahhh...it was a reference to the the "Just Stop Oil" people...I should've caught that one lol

On this particular one, am I the only one who thinks the satire news sites (Onion, BabylonBee, TheHardTimes) missed a golden opportunity by not running the headline:

"Man who made millions off of selling 1300 calorie servings of ice cream protests against HHS secretary destroying public health"
