  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can you recommend a Catholic preacher on YouTube?

There is a bunch of them here, although the only one with whom I have some familiarity is Fr. Mike Schmitz.

Two more that I have listened too occasionally are Fr. Mark Goring, and One-Minute Jesuit by Fr. Michael Rossmann, SJ. I don't think he actually preaches but he does make some good points. Each session is about a particular topic.

He also has some longer sessions apart from the strict one-minute time on most of his media appearances.

Others will have their own preferences. I have limited suggestions as I don't much listen to online preaching.

I have seen Mike Scmitz before! I'll definitely check him out more closely as well as your other suggestions. Thank you!

Another one is Scott Hahn. He was a Protestant pastor but became Catholic. He's also written a few books on Catholicism.

Some of his offerings can be found here. A few of them seem to be with Fr. Mike Schmitz.

Scott Walker Hahn (born October 28, 1957) is an American Catholic theologian and Christian apologist. A former Protestant, Hahn was a Presbyterian minister who converted to Catholicism.

I think it is a truism that converts are often the most active and committed since they made the decision to change for a reason.

I met Rossmann at a retreat he gave. Impressed I was. So too with Schmitz. My daughter has met him. We have listened to both ‘Bible in a Year’ and ‘Catechism in a Year’ and both have been excellent.

Wow thank you! I'm going to listen to both! It looks like this is a marathon, not a sprint!

You want the marathon. Trust me on that. I’ll pray for you today at the start.

I'm hoping that a few can be recommended to help me to better understand God and Catholic teachings. I don't presently belong to any church. Thank you.
Welcome to OBOB Beth! Everyone has pretty much covered it. I hope you enjoy the videos. :)

Posting in fellowship, Trent Horn is a good lay apologist who has an active Youtube channel as well as a few books published. His channel is called "Counsel of Trent." Also, Catholic Answers occasionally has priests on as guests for their radio show, "Catholic Answers Live," which is also published on Youtube.

I second Fr Mike Schmitz. He does good concise breakdowns of Catholic doctrine that are easily digestible for people. You can just search his name on YouTube or find all of his videos on the Ascension Presents channel.

And welcome to the Catholic sub forum!

That’s who I was thinking of.
