  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An Arkansas bill prohibiting state officials from forcing faith-based adoption and foster care organizations from placing children in homes that go against an agency's religious or moral beliefs was signed into law by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Sanders, a Republican, signed Act 509last Thursday along with several other bills on various topics. The measure overwhelmingly passed both chambers of the legislature earlier this month.

Also known as House Bill 1669 or the Keep Kids First Act, the new law prohibits the state government from requiring faith-based organizations to “perform, assist, counsel, recommend, consent to, refer, or participate in any placement of a child for foster care or adoption when the proposed placement would violate the private child placement agency's sincerely held religious or moral beliefs.”

That is such good news! I was adopted in the 1950s in the UK. My birth mother was allowed to choose what religion she wanted me to be raised in. Things have changed dramatically since then. Catholic adoption agencies have closed because they wouldn't place children with same sex couples. I don't know what happened to Protestant ones. I think the Councils have taken over all adoptions now.

As much as I loved my parents, there are enough challenges for adopted people to deal with without having to handle the issue of having same sex parents. I am so thankful for having a parent of each sex and for having been taken to Church and Sunday School. I'm pleased that the children in Arkansas will have a chance of the same advantages that I had. Thank God.

Good!

Catholic Charities here in MA had to end its adoption services as the MA AG, Martha Coakley filed a lawsuit against them
for not providing adoptions to same-sex couples.
Rather than use financial resources to fight the lawsuit, they decided to just get out of the adoption service.

Too bad because Catholic Charities in Minnesota fought it and won.
