And even when some of us lapse we still feel the tug of Rome. The RCC does so much good in the world, it is a blessing.

Yes indeed. This particular conclave has brought out so many. Faith or not. I just find it odd that there is such interest when there is so many that have no issues dragging it through the mud the other 99% of the time. Thank you for acknowledging the good that it does. :)

It is rather fascinating to see how interested people seem to be, at least in the USA. The interest was there before we knew an American was elected, so it isn't that. I fear that many were interested because they hope that a more "woke" man would be elected than Pope Francis and they feel that Pope Leo is that man. People with an agenda are already claiming him as "one of us", both in Conservative and Liberal circles.

I don't know which end of the spectrum he will end up on, but regardless, interest can help the church among some groups. Lapsed or infrequent Catholics will be watching. I am, for sure.

Whatever one may feel about the Catholic Church, it is said that people almost always call a Catholic priest when their house is haunted. They never rush to find a Presbyterian pastor or something.
Very true ;)

The Catholic Church remains a very powerful 'player' on the world stage.
The position of pope is a powerful, and very influential one.
It does not surprise me at all, that the world watches when things are happening in Catholicism.
What the Church does has an influence on the world.

For myself, I enjoyed watching all the 'pomp and circumstance' over the election of the pope.
With today's technology, we really got a close up look into conclave events.
That was pretty interesting.
