  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don’t like her policies, and I do not share her values. Not to mention, she’s also one of the least popular Vice President in history.

Trump? Decent job? Ehhhhhh….he kept some promises, but there is much room for improvement. Still like him better than the other option.
Fair enough. I won’t press on this any further but I think the point’s been made. Having a good candidate who can win elections doesn’t necessarily mean you have a good president who can bring a county together and accomplish their agenda through the normal legislative process. Some people simply aren’t fit to lead even if a majority of Americans think they might be better than the alternative.

Yes. That’s very true. I’m in agreement with you there.

Take care

Purely out of curiosity, what criteria is used when determining how popular a vice president is? How did Harris stack up against the others, exactly? How were they ranked, and by what metric? Are there popularity polls for vice presidents?

Further, why would popularity matter for a vice president anyway? They really only have one job: to stay alive longer than the president.

-- A2SG, sure, they can break ties in the Senate, but other than that....

Based on everything I read, from, ahem, conservative sources.

So it was just an opinion someone posed, not an actual statistic? Then, all we know is that person, whoever they are, didn't like Vice President Harris, and said so. Hardly a qualification for "least popular Vice President in history," I have to say.

And I'm still unclear on how that would be measured, anyway. Is Harris truly less popular than, say, Spiro Agnew, who resigned the office ahead of a pending indictment for criminal conspiracy, bribery, extortion, and tax fraud (he eventually did plead no contest to the tax fraud charge)?

-- A2SG, though, Agnew will always be remembered for his great "nattering nabobs" quip....

Ah, an opinion poll about current political figures. Seems it wasn't an actual ranking of vice presidents throughout history, which means no actual data on how noted slave owner and pro slavery apologist John C. Calhoun stacked up against Harris or Spiro Agnew, I guess.

Conclusion: among those polled, a bunch didn't like Vice President Harris. Who knows why? Could be job performance, could be the way she laughed, there's no way to tell.

-- A2SG, still not sure why it matters anyway, but I guess, for some, it does....for some reason....

Let me ask this. Is a bad candidate the same as a bad president, or rather, is a good candidate necessarily going to be a good president?

I ask because winning an election and leading a country are two entirely different things and the skills to do one well don’t seem to translate too well into the other.

What would you rather have, a good candidate who can win an election but would be a terrible president or a bad candidate who will likely lose the election but when it comes to governance does a decent job?

America went with the good candidate who definitely won the election but got stuck with an absolutely terrible president.
You sure got the terrible part right.
But I would rather have educated voters and no big outside money in elections

It is reasonable for you to wish for the voting situation not be a total trainwreck.
When I think about how likely it is for this wish to come true I give a laugh that is 10% crazy.
