  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All of the baptized are called to work toward the transformation of the world. Most do this by working in the secular realm; some do this by working in the Church and focusing on the building of ecclesial communion, which has among its purposes the transformation of the world. Working in the Church is a path of Christian discipleship to be encouraged by the hierarchy.6 The possibility that lay persons undertake Church ministries can be grounded in Scripture and the teachings of the Church, from St. Paul to the Second Vatican Council and in more recent documents. “Sharing in the function of Christ, priest, prophet and king, the laity have an active part of their own in the life and activity of the church. Their activity within the church communities is so necessary that without it the apostolate of the pastors will frequently be unable to obtain its full effect.”

I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion in this thread.
I think it is a very good topic.

We are the Body of Christ. It seems it is said somewhere that we are to be 'the hands and feet of Christ' here on earth.

As followers of Christ, we have been equipped to serve as an extension of Him in this world. His Spirit equips us. So, I think it is good (intended) for us to extend ourselves to others, in Christ's love, as His grace permits.

And in ministering to others, it also can be beneficial to our own spiritual growth. It gets us out of being just a self-centered, self-focused Christian. And that is spiritually healthy. Least I find it to be so ...
