  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I suppose it is good news that State Farm is going the extra mile. Still, relief for some and windfall for others. Most do insure their personal property losses at more than what they actually own. Also, a lot of stuff is depreciated, like a ten year old couch or five year old mattress. So that is why receipts are requested or in some states required, and in many cases insurers will require proof of replacement. Since they will just give out more with no documentation, who will end up paying? Those who pay for insurance in the future. State Farm is a Mutual insurance company, owned by those they insure. higher payouts equal higher rates. I just saw a 37% increase in property casualty rates. Is my home that much more risk for one year? If anything, it is good to learn to learn to save receipts for all major purchases.

You should scan them and save them on the Internet. My aunt's house burned down, she was on the Oakland/Berkeley border, and she was at church and they would not let her return to her home. So EVERYTHING was gone except the clothes she was wearing and what was in her purse. So too one of the big banks almost went under due to a fire at headquarters, they had a disaster recovery plan but left it at headquarters.

Yes, something I had not thought of to keep on the cloud or save in a email draft.
Serial numbers on some stuff is good too. When I was younger I had a guitar stolen among other things, it was 20 years later that i found the paper I wrote the serial number on. Such access is critical, too bad my chances of recovery were long gone.
