  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A former mob enforcer who spent fourteen years in prison for at least six murders was sworn in this week as a councilman in Englishtown, the New York Post has reported.

Local Republicans picked John Alite to replace Kyle Jewusiak, who resigned after winning in 2024.

Alite spent about fourteen years in prison for the murders, his role in roughly 37 shootings, and “countless beatdowns while working as a Gambino henchman,” according to the Post.

The 62-year-old Alite was part of the Gambino crime family and a boyhood friend of mob boss John Gotti’s son; he was the best man at Gott’s wedding.

It’s good to see Republicans so eager to give felons a second chance.

I had not heard this and when I looked into it, it seems that's just the tip of the iceberg. According to a local news outlet, NJ 101.5, "More than half of Englishtown's elected officials have resigned in protest of a mayor they say is consolidating power and demanding only "yes men" — and who appointed a convicted killer and mob rat to the governing body. Only one of the elected councilpersons remains. The rest have either resigned or are appointees of Republican Mayor Daniel Francisco.
Earlier this month, Francisco requested that two fellow Republicans on the council resign for a mysterious reason.
Two other Republican members resigned in protest soon after. One said the mayor was looking to run the town on his own, while the other said she feared for her well-being." It just goes to show that politics is a dirty mess. I first decided to look into the matter when I noticed in the post that he was appointed and I was curious why there was no election. It seems that in this town the Mayor can fill vacant seats on the council by appointment. I guess they have their tax collector now.
