  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rubio suggests US will drop Ukraine-Russia peace efforts if no progress made in days

During his presidential campaign, Trump said he could force Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop fighting within 24 hours of his return to the Oval Office on January 20. The US later extended that deadline until Trump's first 100 days in office, which ends on April 30. Now it looks like this may not be achieved at all.

Is there ANY peace negotiation the Trump has succeeded at?

North Korea? Fail.

Israel? Fail.

Russia? Fail.

When has he succeeded on the international stage?

Well, let's be honest. Things were going pretty good with all three of these until he left office.

Not what I asked. Which if Trump’s peace deals have amounted to more than nothing?

Dear Secretary Rubio. So just give up? No details on what steps you might take next? HOW ABOUT YOU LOOK TO SOMEONE LIKE REAGAN? He never gave up on breaking the USSR, he never gave up on removing a apartheid in South Africa. Here is a quote from a Reagan speech on South Africa though taken out of context is still applicable to dealing with this conflict.
"We must stay and work, not cut and run. It should be our policy to build in South Africa, not to bring down. Too often in the past we Americans, acting out of anger and frustration and impatience, have turned our backs on flawed regimes only to see disaster follow."
Ukraine has far less flaws than S. Africa. It has far less flaws than Russia. Appeasement for Russia is not the answer. Why did Russia get favorable treatment over tariffs? (Yes, even better than Ukraine). Why is the Trump administration pandering to Russia? Why is the EU still buying so much oil from them and other nations like India accepting oil from tankers that are flagged elsewhere but controlled by Russia being used in smuggling? Still, giving up is better than the favoritism Trump shows to Russia. Did we vote for a weak dollar? A flailing market? A nation that no longer is a world leader? A president that consistently promises the moon but fails to deliver much at all. Yes, many did vote for that but I think that you can't give up. To whom much is given much is required. Peace comes through strength, Reagan knew that. Strength comes through allies. Reagan knew that. Allies come through similar goals and ideology. Ukraine is an ally. Russia is not. Europe is Ukraine's ally, Russia is not. China is not a US ally, Russia is theirs. Please DO THE MATH and get back on the right side of history.

The article happened today, please give the reporters a chance to press him over this before making knee-jerk reactions over it. I'm not happy because I want the bloodshed to stop, and I'll pass judgment after he is pressed over this.

Funny that he's criticized for not supporting Ukraine in this war and criticized for not making peace, please make up your minds. Please don't come at me over campaign speeches, I don't think there is a president who has fulfilled all the promises they've made to get your vote.

Ukraine has been quite clear in their desire for peace. There is not reason to assume that "supporting Ukraine" and "desiring peace" must be mutually exclusive positions.

Yes, perhaps a bit premature on my part. Still, wouldn't it be better to not say you might have to quit peace talks but instead say that pressure will ramp up? I think Trump will ramp up pressure, hopefully the EU too. Also, if the USA drops peace talks, is there any other nation that can take up this role?

I can't speak for Rubio. If he had said to ramp up pressure, how? It'll be the same status quo, and billions of dollars later, the war will stop when Ukraine surrenders because they are out of men and women to fight.

Now, if I were president and behind closed doors, I would tell Russia to stop now, or we'll intervene militarily. No one will make me look bad on the world stage. But I'm not a politician.

What does this have to do with what I wrote about the Trump administration and criticisms, no matter what he does? I thought the ones who support the war would go Yay!

Trump lived in the illusion (or simply lied) that everybody respects him, fears him and that dictators are his friends. We can now see that it is not the case. Putin even left him waiting for an hour when they had a call, to show his dominance over Trump.

Trump's boasting "if I were a president, Russia would not attack Ukraine" seems to be quite unsupported with reality, now.

Russia does not fear him, China does not fear him, Canada does not fear him, the EU does not fear him, even Mexico does not fear him. But he still acts like some king of the world. It begins to look a bit embarrassing. It seems the ones who fear him the most are people living in the USA.

No illusion that many do, except liberals and their governments.
Putin even left him waiting for an hour when they had a call, to show his dominance over Trump.
Both Putin and Zelensky have done this to Trump, maybe because they want the war to continue.
Trump's boasting "if I were a president, Russia would not attack Ukraine" seems to be quite unsupported with reality, now.
Many others besides myself believe this to be true because the invitation to NATO was never offered by Trump. It wasn't until Biden was elected that troop build-ups happened.
