  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He knows what he is doing. I'm not concerned at all.
Knows what he is doing? You have got to be kidding. He has on again / off again tariffs on multiple occasions. His 145% tariff on China suggests a complete decoupling of our two economies but he says he does not want that he wants a trade deal, except that tariffs hurt us as much as everyone else.

He squandered the TPP in his first term, the partnership that was specifically designed to limit China's power so it would not become such a huge trading block.

No, sorry, this is not a man who has any clue what he is doing. All your wishful thinking not withstanding.

Outside the norm and disruptive to the status quo - defiantly effective to getting action. -
How was it effective? Some countries have been willing to negotiate all the time.

And because of the bullying, threatening and disrespectful style in politics you lost a lot of international friends, business deals (e.g. in military purchases), cooperation on various projects and, last but not least, a lot of money in tourism. You became less attractive for investors, international students, expats etc. Crashing markets and possible US recession also do not help the case.

Even if you got some money from this, the lost trust in your reliability/stability and that you speak truth may cost you more. It is like winning some argument in a relationship by being rude, violent, threatening, lying. It damages your long term success.

National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett made clear on Thursday that President Donald Trump’s 10 percent baseline tariff on imports is not going anywhere, despite ongoing negotiations with foreign nations to roll back the steeper tariffs Trump put in place last week.

“Everybody expects that the 10 percent baseline tariff is going to be the baseline and it’s gonna take some kind of extraordinary deal for the president to go below there,” Hassett said during an appearance on CNBC.

It's really sad that, for some folks, "winning some argument" is literally, the only important thing for them.
