  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If it's been enforced with excessive zeal in the past, then can one really dismiss it as a "right wing boogeyman" if it's things that have actually happened?

Calling it a boogeyman implies that it's a completely unfounded concern.
Calling it a "boogeyman" implies that it's influence has been exaggerated and applied to things that aren't really DEI.

What I described is not DEI at all. That was Affirmative Action decades before DEI.

One of the biggest factors in the DEI boondoggle is to conflate DEI (which was never based on legislation) with Affirmative Action (which is based on legislation). The basic ideology is different and the goals are different.
Evidently you didn't like affirmative action either if you are happy to see it eliminated in the name of getting rid of DEI.

I'm going to say this again: One of the biggest factors in the DEI boondoggle is to conflate DEI (which was never based on legislation) with Affirmative Action (which is based on legislation).

The Democratic Party bamboozled everyone by conflating DEI with Affirmative Action...including you.

Both Democrats and Republicans have been bamboozled. That's why Democrats fear that DEI cannot be removed without removing Affirmative Action and why Republicans believe Affirmative Action must be removed along with DEI (although Republicans never liked Affirmative Action anyway).

But erasing DEI requires only repealing Biden and Obama Executive Orders that implemented actions beyond those that were already being implemented by the EEOC under Civil Rights Act legislation.

It evidently requires more than that. For example, look what happened to USAID. Trump publically branded USAID and its employees as criminals for participating or condoning "DEI" activities in broadcasts heard around the world. That's the first thing USAID employees overseas heard that told them that something bad was going to happen--that they were criminals who needed to be hunted down.. Within hours they and their families were herded onto military planes with nothing but the clothes on their backs, their homes and personal posessions gone, their bank accounts out of reach. They were dumped at Dulles airport, job gone, a career that they had worked hard to prepare for gone, nowhere to live, no retirement, no severance pay, no nothing--and branded by the President as criminals to boot. That's how you get rid of DEI and you get to cheer about how those arrogant Marxist libtards are finally getting what they deserve too. MAGA!

It might...it depends on the extent that the Democrats intertwined DEI ideology into other problems.

The problem is that for sure, Trump is not a good-faith actor who will make the effort of intelligently unraveling DEI from the programs into which the Democrats had insinuated it.

I remember when the trope was all these workers were abandoned in the country where they were stationed. They had plenty of time to get their possessions together and ship them back to the US. They also had plenty of time to get their finances together for international banking (which I'm surprised none of them had). They were not hunted down and they had more time than hours.

So which was it? They were abandoned or were they hunted down and forced onto airplanes within hours.

I'm sure many did. But in some countries you have to go to the bank in person to get your money. It can be worked out, but might take months. In the meantime, you're standing in front of Dulles airport with no money, no job, no home and a President telling the world that you're a criminal.

It varied quite a bit, depending on how far out of the capital they lived, whether there was currently civil unrest, etc. Some will have stayed--in fact I know a couple who did, in likely anticipation of picking up a job with another country's aid agency. Oh, it will all work out in the end. People who do jobs like that have to be able to adapt quickly to new situations. But the whole thing was unnecessarily cruel and abrupt--I think intentionally. Is the threat of "woke" so dire and immediate that these people had to be subject to what amounted to an emergency evacuation before they were fired?
