This is one area where I agree with the Trump administration, along with Space policy. No to woke starships! The pagan creep of the last few years in Europe needed to be challenged and is a part of the motivation factor for the rise of the far right.
I don't think protestantism has been legal in France for 450 years or so.
I'm sure there was some stuff linking back to the bits in the original constitution about the president being "inable to discharge the powers and duties of the office" too...
To be pedantic: religious wars tormented France. In 1698 the "Edit de Nantes" was promulagated, guaranteeing the freedom of religion for protestants (Huguenots). This was retracted in 1685 outlawing protestantism again.
