  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

lol, dude flipped a table (like Jesus) and walked away. Sounds like the college Republicans could stand to toughen up a bit. I thought it was only the lib betas who were so weak.

You're going after the wrong person. Look at Section 12.11 of the Wisconsin Election Law.
Elon Musk, who is the defendant in a civil case pending before the Wisconsin Supreme Court, posed with Wisconsin citizens for pictures of them holding $1 million dollar checks. Musk also spent $28 million--not only to win the election for future gerrymandering and overturning elections, but also to guarantee a positive outcome in his own case.

You're arresting the wrong guy.

Indict Elon Musk. Being the richest man in the world doesn't entitle you to buy elections, bribe voters, and buy favorable judgments in court.

Thanks, Valletta, for sharing the Wisconsin Election Law with us. Get to work, Wisconsin police. Catch the real criminal.

I suppose you'd say rhe same thing if someone else did that to the LGBT club on campus. Nothing to see here. The LGBT folks just have to toughen up.

A young woman being intimidated by a man isn’t really something that I would joke about.

I am glad you are so concerned about violations of election law, so let's prioritize, especially since Wisconsin is safe until the next election bribery attempt.
I am concerned about the young Republicans. I did hear their president won one of Musk's million dollar bribes. Perhaps he can buy some therapy for his co-members and pay a detective to find the professor.
Perhaps he went to interview in Canada. Academics are leaving the US in droves.

I think plenty of folks on my side act like hyperemotional wimps. The difference is that my side doesn't make a thing out of being ToughGuys.

A student being intimidated by a professor seems the more egregious dynamic. If the articles are accurate, the professor was terribly rude. I'm not sure that this counts as "violence" however.

Some people consider bullying and verbal abuse to be psychological violence. I guess it depends on one’s perspective.

So? You think that this female should have been a tough guy when a male professor comes over and harasses her and flips her table over? What's she supposed to do? Beat him up? You think the female vs male thing is going to be just tell the female to toughen up buttercup?

I think if the political affiliations had been reversed, your side would have mocked her for her reaction.

What's she supposed to do? Beat him up?

What makes you think I think she ought to do anything? Did he threaten her?

You mean like you did?
What makes you think I think she ought to do anything? Did he threaten her?
I think a MAN harassing and flipping a tale over with a female student certainly can be seen as threatening from the female perspective. Do you support this kind of behavior from men toward women? Sounds like you think she ought to just deal with it.

Has the altercation been recorded?
We don't know whether the professor had been provoked by the students. Who began the quarrel?

Sadly, the example of civil discourse set by the president could not be worse. Combative, offensive, untruthful, demeaning. These young Republicans, who were probably raised by their parents to have manners, are learning that obnoxiousness wins elections, that opponents are to be verbally abused, etc.

My guess is that we don't know the whole story.

It was recorded, sort of. The flipped tablr, but not the actual act. The recording is clearly political, referring to the person as a Crawford supporter, and asking people to vote for Scmiel. He has been placed on leave. Note that he flipped a table. The term violence applied. But might lead most readers to expect something more.

Have you seen a video of the actual flipping? I've only seen the aftermath.
