  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What about British comedians?

The Vicar of Dibley
Mr. Bean
Monty Python
Red Dwarf
Taskmaster

I totally agree. I was thinking about Monty Python. Their skits and movies are hilarious. Graham Chapman and Terry Jones have passed on. But John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, and Michael Palin are still around. All 6 absolutely deserve the Humor Award.

Do they have to be alive? I probably admire the Monty Python group, from what I can tell they pretty much invented modern humor. The show could be hit and miss, but Monty Python and the Holy Grail is almost 50 years old, but the comedy hasn't aged at all. Chris Rock and Dave Chappel are good comedians. Some of the writers of the golden age of the Simpsons? I know there was one writer (forgot his name) who was socially conservative yet was responsible for a lot of the golden age episodes of the show. Which is a little strange considering the liberal bent of the show.

<-- Me? (Naw, I ain't that funny.)
As a total aside, I did get to page through one of Mark Twain's journals once. I mean the actual original diary book. It was pretty cool. He did some neat sketches of sailboats in there.
