In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The lede in the story describes Musk as the “Tesla founder”, why should we believe anything about the article if they can’t even get that correct?

I have a better idea. If Survey Monkey is so reliable, let's use it for the next census. We'll sure find a whole lot of undocumented immigrants if we use a voluntary program like Survey Monkey.

The federal government needs to hire me to write this. Producing a basic 10 question online survey takes about 2 days worth of work, and, assuming that you have secure existing database infrastructure, maybe about an additional day to secure it properly so that a teenager can’t bleed your data from the page by typing database commands into the survey response sections.

3 8-hour days = 24 hours x $40 an hour = $960. That’s about a $1000. They could have hired a freelancer on Upwork for $1K to make this thing.

$1000 /$1 billion = 1 E-9. The government got overcharged by 10,000,000% for the job. Ridiculous.

Careful, Musk took the real Tesla founders to court for saying that he wasn't a founder. I remember back when I founded walmart back ten years before I was born.

I would like to see the survey and the authorization for the spending. Seems too far-fetched. Here is the best I could find. https://www.doi.gov/sites/doi.gov/files/fy2024-nps-greenbook.pdf-508.pdf The word survey is mentioned over 50 times. It generally refers to survey's of land, historical buildings, and even hazardous materials. I only scanned the budget briefly but I think a glaring expenditure like that would have caught someone's attention. So for now I think it is exaggerated but there has to be more info somewhere.
