  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Executive Branch hereby notifies the Court that no further information will be provided in response to the Court’s March 18, 2025 Minute Order based on the state secrets privilege and the concurrently filed declarations of the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security. --HERE
So let's review. The information requested by a judge regarding Trump et al deportation actions are declared to be "state secrets" and a security threat to our nation if made public.

Yet to this same administration, war plans complete with timing, targets, methods, and heck, even a CIA operative among those war plans, are not considered secret and perfectly fine if made public.

Never mind in the text themselves "high side" is literally mentioned which means "classified".
It's going to be a long four years of this insanity.

It's worse than that - the judge is not asking that the information be made public only that it be disclosed to him, the judge. Fishy as heck.

All the ground crews know when the flights took off and departed - but it's top secret!

This was videoed by the deporters and posted on social media - but it's top secret!

This particular judge, James Boasberg, has the security clearance and the authority to review deportation orders - but it's top secret!

Mike Johnson to the rescue! Just eliminate district courts and the judge problem is solved, easy peasy.

Republican House speaker Mike Johnson suggested potentially defunding, restructuring or eliminating US federal courts as a means of pushing back against judicial decisions that have challenged Donald Trump’s policies.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Johnson, a former constitutional attorney, raised the prospect of congressional intervention in the court system.

“We do have the authority over the federal courts, as you know. We can eliminate an entire district court,” Johnson said.

Rest assured, however, that this is not a threat, just looking into the possibility...

In other news, Judge Boasberg has been assigned the Signalgate case. ^_^

Given that this judge is a former FISA Court judge and has adjudicated a number of prominent national security cases (including one about photos of Osama bin Laden and one about Hillary Clinton's emails), I wonder how well this is going to fly with the court.

Trump is not the first President to try and block orders from the judge. Direct confrontation with the courts is rarely advised. The Appeals court just upheld that Trump must wait on some deportations. So we will have lots of drama now for what is likely years to come from an emboldened Trump on a whole range of issues. I guess we should have expected this. Appeals court upholds order stopping deportations under Alien Enemies Act

Yes, this is true.
But he’s the first President to have the courts make decisions and issue orders on the scale that he has.

Having one part of the government duking it out with other parts of the government will be a great stress-test for our Republic, if it doesn’t break it completely.

I can't help but wonder if one of the reasons why judges have been intervening in so many of his executive orders is that, knowing Trump cannot be prosecuted for any of his official acts, they feel stronger checks and balances are needed while he's in office, to ensure Trump doesn't abuse his powers. After all, if he does issue executive orders that are, in fact, illegal or unconstitutional, he cannot be held accountable for those actions.
