  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump’s Popular Vote Victory Was Small by Historical Standards

This gives me a bit of hope in our future. The Electoral college was decisive, the average American not quite as decisive.

Trump got 77, 284 118 or about 49.8%
Harris got 74, 999, 166 or about 48.3%

He won by 2, 284, 952 votes

That is 152, 283, 328 between them

But there were 156, 302, 318 total votes

That means others got about 4, 018, 990 or about 1.9%

There are 186.5 million registered voters.
There were 30.2 million registered voters who did not vote.

Don't confuse the issue with facts. If they "think" they have a landslide, they'll stay home next time. Fingers crossed.
For a Republican to win the popular vote is unheard of at all. It shows dissatisfaction with your Democrats. Just remember Fantine, Trump won the election. Kamala lost.

No doubt or question there. Perhaps remorse for the 30 million who didn't bother.

Where is this 30 million number coming from? The number of eligible voters who did not vote is estimated to be about 89 million. Percentage-wise this is 36% who didn't vote, so turnout (percentage-wise) was worse than in 2020 but higher than 2016 or 2012.
30 million based on registered voters.

"This figure is based on the voting-eligible populationnot registered voters – in the United States, which the Election Lab defines as “the voting-age population (those 18 years or older in the U.S.) minus ineligible noncitizens and felons.” It is considered a “more consistent” measure of voter turnout, according to the lab."

Yes, eligible voters would be more than registered voters. And it would be a better number to try to influence.

Biden winning by a landslide didn't stop Republicans from crying for the last four years.

And Trump winning hasn't stopped the Democrats from crying out in anguish, gnashing their teeth and renting their garments for 8 years. You guys lost, why not accept it?

I've accepted but that doesn't mean I bow down to a dictator. Republicans don't stop when Democrats win,why should we. See how that works.

Just like Trumpster to gloat, brag and rub it in. No such thing as graciousness in MAGA.

Most who speak out against Trump supporters are usually as ungracious as it gets. They go around calling them a cult, idiots, racists, nazis etc etc. And then they expect graciousness in return? Please.

Liberals must be feeling insecure about the elections by bringing up old news. Many blue counties turned red in California and NY, which shows that Republicans won. I'm sure that a lot of people stayed at home because of the choice of candidates.

It's not about you. What I posted was a reply to Ignatius who was replying to Yarddog.
Still, on another thread I posted about the death of politeness.
I would like to see it resurrected and am willing to start with myself....at least from today forward.

I think "Liberals" know that their main issues have all been rejected by the voting public. No question about that.
But as SJRD pointed out, 89, million eligible voters stayed home. Probably, as you say, because of the dismal choice.

But if numbers are correct they are disturbing.
77.2 M Trump
74.9 M Harris
4.0 M Other

89 M did not vote at all. Why is that? Access? Apathy? Hopeless?

I think they are focused on small group issues and missed the big picture, the working class.

Maybe tired of the extremism. One was extreme and the other flip-flopped.

To be honest your post below didn't strike me as being particularly polite.
