• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It says that the OSF is partner and receives money from USAID

you asked for this and I gave it to you
No, it doesn't. It only says that it partners with USAID, which they state explicitly elsewhere:

The claims that the Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros, receive funding from USAID or direct the funding of a multibillion-dollar U.S. government agency are manifestly false. These allegations are part of a broader effort to undermine international development work and delegitimize the independent funding of civil society organizations worldwide.

Open Society is a private foundation that sets its own priorities, makes its own funding decisions, and uses its own funds. We collaborate with a wide range of funders when priorities align, including other philanthropies, governments, and multilateral development agencies.

The OSF sponsors other NGOs which receive money from USAID.

And "partnering" with USAID means getting money from them

You're mixing some things up - probably because you're just swallowing this right-wing propaganda without really parsing it.

What you're conflating are Soros' fund, OSF, with those other charities that are merely "Soros-linked." It's that "Soros-linked" description that's doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

Soros' fund, the OSF, didn't get money from USAID. So you can stop with that line of thinking.

As best as I can tell from your article, "Soros-linked" here merely means "Soros-funded", so any charity that got funding from OSF would count. But OSF funds all kinds of things including Catholic Charities, ACLU, and EJI. What you and you propaganda outlets are doing is trying to use OSF funding as a means of backing into a criticism of USAID. Because OSF funds some things you don't like, and because OSF and USAID also fund some things jointly, therefore USAID is bad.

Do you understand how convoluted that is? It's not even convoluted; it's just dishonest.

Earlier, you described me as "someone who has absolutely no idea what he is talking about, doesn't have any background on the issue, no data, and is repeating MSNBC talking-points." What do you think you're doing here, exactly? I spent all of a couple minutes reading your sources and managed to poke holes in all of it.

I am not mixing anything up: the OSF and Open Society Network (affiliated and supported NGOs, etc.), and Alliance for Open Society, have been involved with, and have received USAID money for many years.

In 2017 "Judicial Watch said Wednesday it is suing the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to get records showing nearly $5 million in American taxpayer money went to the Macedonian branch of George Soros’ Open Society Foundations."

and two Supreme Court cases (2003 and 2013) involved the Open Society Alliance suing USAID after Bush Jr. imposed restrictions on money going to its affiliates for HIV prevention. In the court records, it is written: "Respondents, recipients of Leadership Act funds who wish to remain neutral on prostitution"

the respondents being Soros' Open Society Alliance members

another example is the shadowy "East-West Management Institute" which is funded by Soros and USAID money --and Soros' people basically run this thing:

trying to say Soros' foundation wasn't getting money from USAID because it was one of his affiliate charities / activist groups, which he funds through the OSF, were the ones getting the dollars, is like saying Elon Musk doesn't get subsidies for Space X, because the money isn't going to Musk directly, it is going to his company.

Soros and the MSM are completely full-of-it when they say Soros-connected entities weren't getting USAID money. There are dozens of examples of this in addition to the ones I provided above

Did the money go to OSF or merely through them? OSF - Macedonia is listed as the implementer, along with four other local orgs:

What did the documents that JW sued for say about the funding?

A better example would be if you hand Elon Musk $20 to buy you groceries, and he comes back with exactly $20 worth of groceries, did you give him $20?

It's also possible that you're right, to an extent, and iluvatar5150 is also right, to an extent. These issues are rarely simple and usually have multiple contours and layers to them.
Well I think that the OSF runs a large network of charities, activist groups, etc. --some of these, as was shown, receive USAID money

but at the end of the day, USAID shouldn't even exist: it is a Cold War initiative that is no longer needed
