  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Speaker Mike Johnson and Republicans are at odds over January 6 investigation

Johnson wants Republicans to stop investigating the former January 6 committee, including former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, and narrow its focus, according to three sources familiar with the negotiations. But GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk, who has been tapped to helm the probe, would prefer a broader mandate, a position backed by some officials at the White House. President Donald Trump told Johnson before he took office that he wanted this investigation to be a priority, CNN previously reported.

The tapered scope would also prohibit the investigation from looking at security preparedness leading up to the attack and how to improve security at the US Capitol going forward, the sources added.

The behind-the-scenes disagreement that has deadlocked negotiations is in part why Loudermilk’s new select subcommittee, which Johnson announced in January, has not yet started its work, the sources said.

Many Republican lawmakers would like to move on, but can’t because Trump himself isn’t done with the past and continues to make former January 6 committee members a top target.

Great to hear president Trump and Rep Loudermilk aren't letting it go, if speaker Mike Johnson keeps up the resistance he will be looking for a job just as Kevin McCarthy

Waste of taxpayer money.
I Agree, The 2 Year Russia Hoax Investigation Created By Hillary Clinton And The DNC Democrats, That Cost The American Tax Payers $30 Million And Came Up With A Big "Nothing Burger"?

The Russia Hoax (Christopher Steele) Dossier Was A Pre-Planned Clear Act Of Treason By Hillary Clinton, The DNC , And Numerous Others Involved That Were Trying To Remove A Duly Elected President In Donald J. Trump "Falsely"

The committee wants to put the final nail in the coffin on a criminal investigation that would have almost certainly resulted in multi-count felony convictions for the current president. Yes, the Supreme Court gave him immunity, but the crimes in question were not committed as part of his offical duties, so technically he was probably not immune. Yes, he managed to run the Indepedent Prosecutor Jack Smith out of town before he could present the case that he was not immune---but not before he released a 127 page memo with enough evidence to convict him several times over.

So how does the Republican House continue this charade that the defenders of democracy and our republic are "the bad guys?" Obviously they have to investigate them, too. 50.1% of the people will definitely never believe it, but they are hoping to convince the other 49.9% that the current president is an innocent victim of malicious prosecution.

So they are wasting time and money for no reason.

They are going to investigate and bring criminal charges for treasonous actions by the many that were involved, in falsely trying to impeach "Donald J. Trump" that was/is innocent of any crime regarding the Jan 6th capitol event

The commanding win of Donald J.Trump in the November 2024 election let's the world know exactly where America stands

Rod Rossenstien the Republican acting AG under Trump, started the Special Council investigation. Hilary and the Dems had no control and had nothing to do with that.

The Steele dossier was just a small supporting document create by Steele and submitted to FBI because Steele had some concerns, it was used amongst other evidences only to get the FISA warrant of surveillance of Carter Page which turned up nothing. This was just a small part of the investigation into collusion with Russia by non Trump members of the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

Mike "Texas is right to sue other sovereign states how they run their own election" Johnson wants the crazies in his caucus to stop investigating the investigators. LOL.

Good to know their priorities are in order.

49.9%--and falling-- is not commanding, and his approval ratings are the lowest ever for a president in his first 100 days--and about to sink more.

"False"!

The "Christopher Steele Dossier" was the foundation for the investigation, it was delivered by John McCain to the FBI, a document fabricated by "Steele" and paid for by Hillary Clinton and the DNC

Both the Republicans and the Democrats said that Crossfire Hurricane stated because of what Papadopoulos said.
Competing memos from the Republicans and the Democrats on the House intelligence committee both say that information about George Papadopoulos, a Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, had prompted the FBI investigation in July 2016.

A memo released Feb. 2, 2018, by the Republicans on the House intelligence committee
raised concerns about the use of the dossier in an application from the DOJ and FBI under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to conduct electronic surveillance on Carter Page, another Trump campaign foreign policy adviser. But it said the “Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016.

The Democrats on the House intelligence committee agreed with that, saying in a memo released Feb. 24, 2018, that the FBI investigation started “more than seven weeks” before the FBI received Steele’s intelligence reporting in mid-September of that year.

The two sides disagree about how essential the dossier was to the FISA court application to monitor Page. But one of the few points of agreement is that the FBI investigation began with information on Papadopoulos.

After the GOP memo was released, Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, also a member of the intelligence committee, said the dossier didn’t have any effect on the Russia investigation. “I actually don’t think it has any impact on the Russia probe,” Gowdy said on Feb. 4, 2018, on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Gowdy mentioned other incidents that had nothing to do with the dossier, including Papadopoulos’ contacts with the professor and the June 9, 2016, Trump Tower meeting Donald Trump Jr. arranged with what he was told was a “Russian government attorney” offering incriminating information on Hillary Clinton. “So there’s going to be a Russia probe, even without a dossier.”

From Andrew Mcabe
We started the investigations without the dossier. We were proceeding with the investigations before we ever received that information,” McCabe told CNN. “Was the dossier material important to the [FISA] package? Of course, it was. As was every fact included in that package. Was it the majority of what was in the package? Absolutely not.”
