  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The armor of God is not political and religious division.

Not with all it's divisions and strife

It feels that way much of the time, doesn't it? Still, we have to consider what Jesus and His Apostles taught the earliest disciples to strive for: unity and love.

That's impossible with political and religious divisions and worldly strife, complaints and fears.

Political and religious divisions and economic strife, complaints and fears, are works of the flesh. That's why Jesus said not to worry or think about worldly things in Matthew 6. And in Matthew 13, in the sower parable, Jesus said that the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth will make us unfruitful.

Some folks do make it impossible, don't they?
If people are divided then their unity is just a show. It's not one mind like Paul urged us to have. The mind of Christ isn't divided.

Yes, I agree. I've attempted to encourage fellow Christians here to have more solidarity among themselves for a very long time, with not much avail.

But I hold out hope.

Study their divisions and the scripture and see that their divisions are not the way.
I can say that not all seminaries are divisive. Some do allow for your own interpretation. I also do not think that all denominations are divisions. If one is born again, it does not matter what church one might fellowship with to me. Sure it is better to have the least amount of error as possible, but no church or teacher is perfect.

I prefer no error

Yes, there are churches where the gifts operate. The bible says to desire them earnestly, though of course many do not.

I don't think it is wrong either to go to a seminary or have other training in theology and doctrine. Paul told Timothy to study to show thyself approved. Of course there are lots of ways to study and God can call anyone to be a minister and fill them even if they never went to school ever.

Not meaning to disagree with your point, but 2 Timothy 2:15 doesn't say "study" except in archaic English. The word literally translates "hasten", but the meaning in context is "be diligent".

But I agree completely, there is good reason to train one's mind and increase knowledge. I see a lot in Scripture promoting that —specially as it relates to getting to know God better, and knowing what you believe and why you believe it and knowing truth. The only places where I see it spoken against have to do with learning falsehood or trusting one's own comprehension of truth above the truth itself, and where it seems to be speaking of increasing knowledge instead of obedience and pursuit of Christ. 2 Timothy 3:7 "always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.", describes a phenomenon and practice worth avoiding.

Are you saying that we must be divided from catholicism? If so I agree. That's my point. Get rid of things that cause unnecessary divisions. But people are not willing to part with those things.
There is plenty of division among protestants.
