  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I complained about the comment "wannabe statesman" as divisive, and it doesn't matter if it's left or right news; my mind doesn't reside in an ideological box. I have an idea of decent written news without all the descriptive words that many political types bobblehead yes to.
good grief

Nope, it's how right-wingers and left-wingers, including left-wing governments, talk to about each other. I'd find it hard to be cordial to a group that's called me orange man, Hitler, Nazi.
JD Vance called Trump America's Hitler in a private email to a friend.

In 2016, Vance wrote in a private message to his former law school roommate: "I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical a**hole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler. How's that for discouraging?"

I don't know of any prominent Democrat that has ever called Trump Hitler.
I know Piers Morgan brings it up all the time, almost every time he has a left wing guest on his show, he tries to put that guest on the spot and tries to claim that the left is calling Trump Hitler or a Nazi. He basically slaps them with this strawman, when actually it was JD Vance, Trump's VP that called him Hitler.

Many on the left have called Trump authoritarian or a fascist, many have pointed out that some of the things Trump has said are echoes of phrases from Mein Kamf or from speeches Hitler has made. Many of Trump's ex-admin, office collegues have also said Trump is a fascist. They do this not to be name calling but to put an ideological label on him. Much like calling me an Atheist isn't name calling.

They can say what they want, yes, but is it proper, especially from a news organization?
Let’s talk about how the media is doing their jobs wrong rather than how badly the President is doing his job.

Pass.

No treaty, just verbal reassurances that Russia made decisions on. This was Russia's first mistake of trusting a lying USA. When you go back in history and read the communications between the USA and Russia, you'll find the cause of the war was the NATO expansion, and the effect was Russia invading Ukraine.

Sorry, no. Russia was never promised that NATO wouldn't expand. Those "promises" were made to the Soviet Union and were never actually promised, if they had, they'd have ended up in an actual treaty. Beyond that, Russia didn't keep their promise of not attacking former Soviet Republics -- so even if the US had promised it, Russia broke the deal first, by attacking Georgia, Romania, and Tajikistan.

Also, if the war was about NATO expansion, as you claim, why did it take Russia almost 25 years after NATO had expanded before attacking? That makes no sense whatsoever, particularly as NATO had denied Ukraine membership -- there was no danger of Ukraine joining NATO until after the "rebellion" in the Donbass (which Russia supported with Russian troops and equipment) had ended, at a minimum (there were other issues, as well). And, again, since Russia was keeping that rebellion going with troops and equipment, Russia knew there was no way Ukraine was joining NATO.

Instead, this is where you need to go to Putin's writings to find the actual cause for the war, the writings where Putin talks about expanding the borders of Russia back to what they were under the Russian Empire.

Ukraine will be a neutral country as talked about in 2022, but the wamongers had to contain and weaken the hated Russis, Russia, Russia, and thousands of deaths later Ukraine will be nuetral.

Except we haven't been containing Russia. We've allowed him to attack Georgia, Tajikistan, Romania, and Chechnya, and never intervened. We allowed him to annex Crimea with little pushback. We've allowed Russia to set up a puppet government in Belarus.

As for Ukraine becoming neutral, it is sad that you think you (and Russia) should decide the internal politics of Ukraine. Ukrainians had already decided that they want to be tied to the West, not to Russia.

This video has a couple extra (mostly irrelevant) seconds at the beginning:

This video is amazing. Really, every time I think Trump et al aren't that bad, they prove me wrong. Maybe Zelensky shouldn't have chosen that moment to call out Vance's nonsense, but Vance's contributions to the situation were, at first, naive, and then paternalistic.

And who was that idiot that chimed in asking why Zelensky wasn't wearing a suit and tie....as if it mattered.

Does he complain about the lack of suit before or after Vance and Trump tried to bully Zelenski?

It looks like due to lack of negotiation capability coming from US, that many Europe nations are coming together to fill in that gap.

‘A crossroads in history’: Europe seeks to take control of Ukraine negotiations at pivotal London summit

Starmer told reporters he was working with France and a small number of other nations to craft a plan to stop the fighting, which would then be presented to the US.

But of course, knowing how Trump operates, he won't be willing to agree to anything that doesn't present himself as being the master negotiator and giving ALL the credit to him for a peace deal.
These Europeans will need to either frame it in a way where Trump can take all the credit or find themselves frustrated about Trump and his subordinate Republicans sabotaging their efforts. Much like the Democratic Party have had to put up with when trying to work with Trump and his Republicans to try and get accomplishments for the benefit of USA.

Why would they present it to the US? Just see if they can negotiate between the two parties and get them to agree leaving the US out of it entirely.

Most negotiations go better when a neutral party is in charge of the negotiations.

That is Marge Green's new boy friend.
A reporter at a wingnut outfit.
She broke up with the Yoga instructor who was just some guy who had a mat in his van parked down by the river.

It was after.
So, just wanted to join in the fun of teaming up against Zelensky. Maybe gain some points with Trump. Coward bully wannabes often join in when the main Bully is doing his thing.

US is important in the Securities Guarantee. I would expect the deal will be, Ukraine will let Putin keep the land he has stolen as long as they leave the rest of Ukraine alone and leave, and NEVER come back, or else Europe and USA will be back and this time they will do direct engagement in war.

If it was before, then perhaps that's worse. Maybe it shows that the Republican team intended to attack Zelensky, like it was planned.
It was before JD Vance stepped in. It was the second question asked to Zelensky by a right wing corespondent.
