  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Elon Musk's DOGE revealed Tuesday that President Donald Trump has saved taxpayers a staggering $55 billion in less than a month.

It said the savings were found through a combination of detecting and deleting fraud, canceling contracts and leases, and selling assets.

The group - nicknamed the 'nerd army' - also ended grants, fired federal employees, changed some programs, and saved money with regulatory reforms.

Until DOGE is willing to address the elephant in the room, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, the nation will not save money in any meaningful way.

Our national annual deficit is over 1.8 trillion dollars. That's what we increase in debt, every single year. Not even the total debt, just what we generate in 1 year.

Elon Musk is claiming (but has yet to verify) savings of 65 billion. But even in a best case scenario of 65 billion, that would only be, at best, 3-4% of the annual deficit in reduction. And that's a quite optimistic and ideal estimate. The actual receipts currently only depict 9 billion in savings, and the grants and loans being cut aren't even detailed in terms of why they've been identified as wasteful.

Even the wholesale dismantling of USAID would only amount to roughly 1% savings of the annual deficit. Whereas, social security, Medicaid and Medicare, and DoD make up something like 3/4s of our spending. With interest making up most of the remaining quarter.

And so, if the administration and doge actually intend to address the deficit, that's where there has to be reform and cuts. Until then, it's all just for show.

What DOGE says doesn't make it fact.

Not always right. True, but what spending do you like that's been cut so far?
Not sure. They haven't really been forthright with what exactly has been cut. I'm interested how much cutting they do in the military.

Waste, yes. There are weapons that the Pentagon said were not needed but Congress still pushed them through. Billions spent needlessly.
I agree 100%. I saw it in the '80s when I was in the Army and throughout my career as a government contractor.
