  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Colonialism is NOT over. Greenland and Panama can wait.

Colonial powers have always made their riches by collecting revenues from the sale of the resources of their colonies. This is Colonialism 2025. Ukraine will be forced to give the US control of their resources (50% of REVENUES is indeed control). I well understand that lots of Americans support this. Colonialism has always been popular.

And the man who would be king seems likely to force Zelenskyy to resign.
=========
This isn't necessarily bad for the US. After all, 10% of Americans trust Putin. As for Putin, he will simply wait a few years and attack again. Trump will be 90 by then.

Just BTW, many Republicans in DC are speaking out, noting that Putin should be arrested, put in jail or even executed. It will be interesting to see how many of them will be forced to bow down and cheer Putin when he comes to the US.

I thought you were talking about Russian colonialism there for a minute...

Just in case anyone actually entertains the absurdity of making Ukraine paying the USA back for its foreign aid, just recall how Iraq was going to pay the USA for removing Saddam. Yes, a wonderful promise that only drained the USA in funds. The money given to Ukraine is a sunk cost. The future value of minerals for the USA is very little given the whole region is unpredictable and the leadership of the USA, Russia and Ukraine are likely to be very different in even two years, while true profits from new exploration and mining is many years off. It might look good on paper, but it is a fantasy much like Iraq paying back the USA. Also since there is coercion involved, it is not colonialism but imperialism.

Dollars to donuts a subsidiary of Trump holdings will find a way here or in Gaza.
perhaps Gaza

Ukraine is truly different.

Ukraine is the largest country in Europe. It has the strong support of a European economy as large as that of the US. It will continue to develop their economy and weapons production.

If Trump does not allow a deal to be made, then the $40B (and perhaps more) a year of US (US weapons) will need to be replaced by European weapons. Surely, Europe realizes that Ukraine and the rest of Europe cannot count on the US to defend Europe against Russia. Germany will have to increase weapons production.

Perhaps the US wants to negotiate a deal for minerals that involves security guarantees, perhaps not. Of course, promises by Trump, Vance or Putin mean very little.

Trump has a choice to make. He can force Putin into a deal, or the war will continue with Europe and Ukraine fighting on without US help. After a military production buildup in Germany, they will be able to do so, partially as a result of Trump pressure to spend more on defense.

I'm also INCREDIBLY curious about how weapons manufacturers are responding to trump's messaging.

I wonder if he would end up selling arms to Russia. Boy, wouldn't that be a thing.

Well obviously he would. If Putin offered him half the resources of Eastern Europe, Poland etc I'm quite certain Trump will be shipping the latest weapons to Moscow.

Russia will also getting its value from their new colony (Crimea and the Dunbass),
Yes. I'm waiting for Putin to come in and settle the dispute between Trump (whom the KGB now GRU call Krasnov) and Zelenskyy. It's just wonderful to know who really rules the world.
