  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here are the facts.

Over the past 70 years, Arab Muslims and Palestinians have repeatedly rejected the two-state solution.
So your position, because of that, is that it's a bad idea? I'm not really sure what you position is to tell you the truth. But looking for a solution doesn't seem to be part of it. For what it's worth, here's mine.

Maintain the cease fire at all costs.
Rebuild Gaza so that the Palestinians have somewhere to live. It can be paid for by any nation that would like to help. It will be expected that Arab nations will contribute significantly.
Palestinian elections will be held as soon as is reasonable with the aim of agreeing to a two state solution.
A multi national force, including Arab nations will have boots on the ground to prevent further terrorist acts.

I support all of them, provided that there is a global assurance against any future terrorist attacks or rocket launches toward Israel from Gaza.

Many Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank have relocated to cities such as London, New York City, or Dearborn, Michigan. They have successfully assimilated into Western culture.
I'm glad to hear it. I'm all for migration and like multi-cultural communities. My concern was that teenagers, particularly without their parents (who probably had been killed), would find assimilation difficult. Also relocating to a very different culture might be relatively easy for families or adult individuals who choose to do so, harder when you have had to move because of war, famine etc. and extremely distressing when your homeland is being taken over by a foreigner who wants to make it into some type of resort. I appreciate that the situation is difficult, but if the area could be redeveloped for the Gazan population to live there that would be good. It would probably mean an international financial effort but at least they would be able to live in their homeland. However it would mean accepting the two-state solution and I know that there are difficulties with that.
It will only sow more division between Islam and the West. Which is good - we don't want Islam here anyways. It's foreign to us Americans, and we don't like it.

...We don't have to like Islam. It's not a requirement either by law, or by policy of any kind. And we have speech that is protected... And freedom.
I agree that you don't have to like Islam but we Christians do have to live in peace with everyone as far as it is dependent on us. (see Romans 12 v 18).

Indeed, this is a consequence of citizens electing terrorist organizations to represent them. To understand why there have been no elections in Gaza for the past 17 years, one must consider the choices made by the Palestinian people.
But did they know that that would be the consequence of electing them?

Well you aren't the only one. However, if his first term is any indication, rhe world was more at peace then. His style has been an anathema to the left since 2016. I don't expect it to change now. It's time to give up the whining about his style. He's not going to change. And if one wants to complain everytime he post something on X or tosses out an
idea just cause they don't like the way he does things, well i guess be my guest, but all it does is show that people really have no clue.

He's been in office for about 1 month now. Let's see what happens.
Well I'm not on the left in the USA because I'm in Britain and our MPs have free votes on moral issues so things like abortion, transgender etc. are not party political issues here. This means that being 'left' or 'right' isn't quite the same as it appears to be in the USA. In fact it was a Conservative PM who brought in gay marriage, which I don't agree with. However I understand that the left in your country aren't Trump fans and may jump at any issue on which to criticize him.

I don't dislike him, although I'm not keen on much of what he does. However he is pro-life, supports some Christian values and seems to be a hard-worker who gets things done. On the other hand I am concerned about him on the world stage. He is doing some controversial things; even more so today with his team meeting Putin without involving Ukraine and Europe, but I don't want to derail this thread on that issue.

Yes, we will see what happens. I suspect that some things (probably internally in the USA) may be good and others internationally are very worrying.

The people elected Hamas in 2006. There can be consequences when citizens elect a party that is a terrorist organization.
Indeed, this is a consequence of citizens electing terrorist organizations to represent them. To understand why there have been no elections in Gaza for the past 17 years, one must consider the choices made by the Palestinian people.
Hamas is a terror group that forced its rule on the people of Gaza outside of the political process.

Hamas only received 44.45% of the vote in 2006, but it gave them a majority of 74 seats in the 132 seat Palestinian Legislative Council at that time.

Hamas' control of Gaza came by force.

Hamas gunmen seized military control of the Gaza Strip on Thursday, executing Fatah rivals and provoking the collapse of their power-sharing Palestinian Authority government.

As Fatah’s last security command centers fell after four days of fighting, Hamas military men in black masks moved unchallenged across Gaza City, hunting down foes, blowing up homes and dragging the body of a top Fatah militant through the streets.

Firing mortars, grenade launchers and automatic weapons, Hamas fighters captured the Gaza City headquarters of the Preventive Security, Intelligence and National Security agencies Thursday afternoon, and executed some of their captives. The Presidential Guard compound fell late in the evening. All were controlled by Fatah.

Earlier in the day, Hamas overran the main Fatah compound in the southern city of Rafah, giving it full control of the border with Egypt, a source of the smuggled weapons that have expanded the movement’s arsenal in recent months.

Hamas fighters overran the headquarters amid mortar rounds and gunfire. They raised green Hamas flags over the shattered two-story compound, kneeled to the ground in prayer and marched handcuffed Fatah gunmen into the streets, some shirtless or in their underwear.

In between times of rebellion, HAMAS kept the water running and the lights on, made sure the garbage was collected and schools kept running.

There's only two choices. Either leave it in the hands of those who killed 45,000 people and reduced it to rubble or the US takes it over.
An obviously false either / or. Do you really believe these are the only two solutions? How can you possibly not know about the "two-state" solution option?
You leftists hate Trump so much (TDS) you'd rather see the remaining Palestinians in the hands of their murderers.
Those who criticize Trump have plenty or clear, articulable, factually-based reasons for "hating" Trump - no appeal to a mysteriously mental state called Trump Derangement Syndrome is needed to explain our position.

We need a *new* solution!
This may be a workable solution.

Egypt should assume responsibility for Gaza for 15 years in exchange for the erasure of its external debt, opposition leader Yair Lapid posited in his Tuesday morning speech in Washington DC, before the conservative-leaning Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank.

According to Lapid’s plan, which was presented for the first time on Tuesday, the international community and its regional allies will cover Egypt’s debts.

During this period, Gaza will be rehabilitated, and conditions for self-governance will be created. Egypt will be the central player and oversee the reconstruction, which will further strengthen its economy,” Lapid said in his speech.

Lapid reasoned that Israel wants to transfer control of Gaza to a non-Hamas entity capable of maintaining security and that Gaza cannot be rebuilt without an authorized body to oversee the effort and maintain security, alongside the State of Israel.

Egypt will benefit, per Lapid, as its economy is on the verge of collapse, which threatens the stability of the country and the entire Middle East. “The external debt of $155 billion does not allow Egypt to rebuild its economy and strengthen its military,” he said.

Lapid’s vision sees Egypt taking control of the Gaza Strip through a UN Security Council resolution, including internal security and civilian management.

The control, according to Lapid, will be defined as “trusteeship” with the goal of transferring Gaza to the Palestinian Authority after a process of reform and reduction of extremism, with measurable benchmarks.

Lapid's post-war plan leaves Egypt in charge of Gaza for 15 years

'Gaza will be rehabilitated, and conditions for self-governance will be created,' Lapid said.

Egypt should assume responsibility for Gaza for 15 years in exchange for the erasure of its external debt, opposition leader Yair Lapid posited in his Tuesday morning speech in Washington DC, before the conservative-leaning Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank.

The control, according to Lapid, will be defined as “trusteeship” with the goal of transferring Gaza to the Palestinian Authority after a process of reform and reduction of extremism, with measurable benchmarks.

The rehabilitation process will begin under Egyptian supervision, with Saudi Arabia and the Abraham Accords countries participating in working groups in the spirit of the Negev Forum. The US will invest in Gaza in cooperation with Egypt, according to the plan set forth by US President Donald Trump.

Lapid's plan for Gaza residents

Under Lapid’s plan, Egypt will allow any Gaza resident who wishes to leave and has a place to go to do so in an orderly manner.

Egypt will work to prevent arms smuggling into Gaza, destroy tunnels, and eliminate remaining terrorist infrastructure.

Lapid said an Egyptian-Israeli-American security mechanism will be established to address immediate threats.

According to Lapid’s office, the opposition leader formulated this plan in recent months with the involvement of senior political and security officials and presented it to senior Trump administration officials at the White House and leading senators during his visit to the US.

Lapid’s office described his offering as “a complementary plan to the principles presented by President Donald Trump in recent weeks.”

Somebody posted an AI generated video about a 'reimagined Gaza'. Don't watch it if you're eating. It made me somewhat bilious. You might think 'So what?' You'd expect the WH to deride it. Except that Trump shared the video from his own account. It shows the measure of the man.

I personally enjoyed the lyrics in the video, because when the lyrics rhyme, it's always more meaningful in a 'deeper thinking' kind of way.

"Trump Gaza, number one"... I can't help but to ponder on the depth of those words, particularly.

Maybe Trump wants to call it GUSA.

If USA want to foot the bill, clean up the place and build new infrastructure, homes, towns cities etc. That would be great.
BUT, he then needs to give it back to the Palastinians, they need to be given ownership of the homes, towns, cities and infrastructure, not sold to them, but given to them, also those families that lost lives, they should be given significant compensation, either massive sums of money or perhaps highly sought after investment properties in USA from which they can earn a lifetimes worth of income from.

Also, they will be running the country and will get to rename it back to Gaza or maybe to Palestine or whatever they want. They should also be given the land back that the Israel country has taken from them since Israel's inception. Maybe in USA's generosity, USA could offer the Israeli's to take over one of the 50 states of USA, maybe Texas.

In the meantime, while the Palastinians are waiting for USA to rebuild Palestine, they should temporarily take over either Israel or a USA state, make that their home, setup a temporary government etc, until they can more into their newly built Palestine.

that's going to be a really long wait, if they're thinking we're going to rebuild it for them to return to. It's going to be like...forever.

Well then USA should stay out of it then.

Israel have a war with Gaza, kill massive amounts of people, destroy the infrastructure and land, and then when the dust settles USA think they can come in and claim the spoils of war?

Then Russia have a war with Ukraine, they kill each other for years, then USA wants to claim some of Ukraine for itself?

USA is seriously painting itself as some kind of scavenger, a vulture perhaps, circling above, waiting for someone to die so they can then swoop down and have a feast.

What's next? Do USA encourage China to attack Singapore so that USA can eventually swoop in and take what is left of Singapore?

What about South Korea, are they going to encourage North Korea to attack South Korea for them?

You guys feeling proud of yourselves?
