  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Several religious scholars and activists were among the signatories and authors behind a document calling on schools to embrace "unshakable principles" about the importance of Judeo-Christian tradition and parental rights amid a push by the Trump administration for school choice nationwide.

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C., announced in a statement last week that it had unveiled the "Phoenix Declaration: An American Vision for Education" at the Conservative Vision of Education Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

The new declaration highlights seven pillars the signatories believe should guide policy education in the U.S.: parental choice and responsibility, transparency and accountability, truth and goodness, cultural transmission, character formation, academic excellence and citizenship.

How about just Christian values instead of Judeo Christian?
They're both the same. Follow the ten commandments and tell
us which one isn't shared by both Christians and Jews?

If Judeo values are the same as Christian values, what did Christ reveal that was different?

Christ didn't reveal anything different from those values. In fact, Jesus himself said
"I didn't come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it."

What Christ revealed that was different was that He was the Son of God. He was
charged and killed for blaspheme.

Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism, since Jesus is the Messiah. They go hand in hand. I guess? Our country indeed was founded on Judeo Christian values.

Yup and if interested read the book, "The Magna Carter of Humanity: Sinai's Revolutionary Faith and
Future of Freedom" by Os Guiness.

Os Guiness shows in detail how the founding fathers were aligning the nation with the
Israelites in the Book of Exodus. He in fact shows how both Jefferson and Franklin
proposed making the US Seal depicting the Israelites fleeing from Egypt.

I would stick with "Judea-Christian". As I mention in the book Christian Logic,
much of the moral-ethical code that New Testament writers speak about,
are "quoting concepts" from the Jewish Old Testament (such as the Torah,
the Psalms).

Christians need to differentiate between the moral-ethical commands in
the (Christian) Bible, and the difference between the New Covenant and
the Old Covenant.

Also, Christians need to start (again) to promote the aspects of "our
shared reality" that the Bible presents. And this means paying attention to the
Judeo-Schristian concept of "our shared reality", upon which all the biblical
moral-ethical commands are built.

I could cut and paste pages about the Judea-Christian view of reality, but I
have already done that in the thread titled something like "Christians and
Teaching About Reality".

We see why the Founding Fathers wanted religion separated from government. They can't agree who's right.
Religion separate, yes. Ethics? Depends.
