  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pennsylvania administrators have made changes to abide by President Donald Trump's executive order threatening to withhold funds from schools that allow male athletes to compete in female athletics, while officials in New Jersey say they have no plans to comply.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association voted last week to remove a policy that allowed school principals to determine an athlete's "gender" eligibility in cases where it is "questioned or uncertain." The new policy instructs schools to "consult with their school solicitors relative to compliance with" Trump's order, according to The Associated Press.

On Feb. 5, Trump issued an executive orderdeclaring the "policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational institutions that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities" by allowing trans-identified male athletes to compete on women's sports teams.

They will follow federal laws or lose federal funding. The choice is up to them.

It'll be interesting just how legal claims will attack this matter.

We need to have some states where transgender people can live and work safely, so I'm glad New Jersey is trying to be one of those states. We'll have to see how everything plays out in the courts and the legislatures.

Sports is a special situation, because some of the physical changes that happen at puberty are permanent, and it's important to be fair to the various competitors. According to the article, the current NJSIAA policy is that "Any member school may appeal the eligibility of a transgender student on the grounds that the student's participation in interscholastic athletics would adversely affect competition or safety. Any appeal under this paragraph will be heard by the Eligibility Appeals Committee and shall be confidential." So it sounds like there's already a policy in NJ to decide, case by case, whether a particular competitor has an advantage.

If trans people don’t want to live in reality and pretend to be the opposite sex, that’s their choice.

Trans people can be given talk therapy, SSRI’s and other mood stabilizers and learn to accept how their body naturally is.

I’m much more concerned about the rights of women and girls over a man who thinks he’s a woman. I think he’s simply delusional.
