  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump border czar Tom Homan accuses Pope Francis of hypocrisy: 'He’s got a wall around the Vatican'

Hah! Walls aren't evil because they are mere objects. Right.
Right. They can't be.
So if you don't think about building walls you are OK?
Depends on what you are thinking about.
Here pope Francis basically said Trump is not a Christian.
Incorrect. He didn't say that Trump isn't building bridges.
I don't know whether he is or not, but the pope seems to know.
I don't know if he has made that judgement with anyone but Trump is so much of the things Jesus told us not to be. I truly pray that he repents.
Whatever. The Vatican has walls and if you would climb over one you would be in a heap of trouble.
The Vatican doesn't condemn walls. It is not about having walls but why they are being built. Are the walls for protection or for exclusion?

Pope Francis needs to 'think about' the walls he has around him and how inconsistent he is when he chides others who want to build a wall.
You just don't get it.

That's too much nuance for me. A 'nuanced' position that turns a blind eye to Biden's abortion position but jumps on those who want to actually have border security in their country. I'm just not 'spiritual' enough for that.
The Pope didn't turn a blind eye to the abortion position.

Just try and walk around the Vatican and see how ignorant Mr. Homan is. Sure, you can get into the Vatican Museum with an expensive ticket after passing through a metal detector. Sure you can get into St. Peter's if you get your ticket and go through security. Sure you can get into the square after you pass through security. You might be able to get to the Vatican Post Office. But step out of bounds and see what happens. Your remarks only show your ignorance. You can go and visit some parts of the Vatican. For the rest, you will be caught. All sorts of people with tourist visas can come to the USA and go to 99.9% of this country. We are less restrictive in that than the Vatican. But here we have functionally open borders and the pope telling us how evil walls and gates are when he has walls and gates and the security to back them up. It's a double standard.
But this is a very poor comparison. Vatican City is a tiny country where a large amount of it is governmental. You talk about how free you are to visit places in the US--well, see if you can just walk up into the White House without any kind of prior access agreement, like as part of a prearranged tour. Now you might say places like that are a small percentage, but again Vatican City is a very, very small country (again, Disneyland is larger than Vatican City is) and as a result of that, there's a significantly smaller percentage that ends up being off limits.

Trying to compare Vatican City's situation to the United States doesn't make much sense at all.

Realistically, the pope has never liked the United States of America. He doesn’t like it because he despises wealth, and being the wealthiest country on earth - he feels it needs fixing... The only way to reduce that wealth, in his opinion, is to flood the place with poor immigrants.

But if so, what is the pope's understanding of economics, and how would such a plan really play out? Some say it would result in the collapse of Western civilization, if the borders were opened wide for *all* unchecked.

...Is that smart?

Does pope Francis care about the middle class working people? Or does he *only* care about the poor? At what point does the pope feel "too much" immigration into the US would be?

...No goal? No plan..? Just blindly go with it?

I don't understand.

I think the pope might actually "dislike" wealthy people like Trump. But I don't think Jesus disliked anyone, AFAIK.

...
So I don't feel right about the denegration.
