  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Episcopal Church or the United Church of Christ are the safest denominations if you are looking for a pro-LGBT congregation, though there are exceptions in those denominations, they are rare in New England. PC-USA and ELCA are really going to depend alot on the particular congregation, and where in the country you live.

Thet congregation I left in the ELCA wasn't exactly openly affirming, but it was highly tolerant. I left for other reasons unrelated to LGBT issues.
Funny you should say that. I ended up in a wonderful Episcopal perish that is 15ish minute from both home and work, so it has been easy to really jump in and become part of the community. One of the priests has just recently been ordained, but one of her homilies has already had a pretty profound influence on my relationship with God. I am new to the Episcopal church, but it seems to be a pretty good fit for me. My second choice was a UMC church and third was a UCC church. I am fortunate that there are a number of great churches nearby.

Changing churches has also prompted some great conversations with my 80+ year-old mother about theology, church and all things spiritual. She is a charismatic Baptist that reads a lot of Catholic mystics and has an enormous knowledge of scripture, so she has interesting perspectives. I have been shocked to learn how her views are changing in her old age; just like my late father did, she is becoming a liberal.

Happy you found a spiritual home!
