The mark of the beast is about false worship..

Rev 13:1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having [b]seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has [g]the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

What is false worship?

Jesus tells us plainly, it is keeping our rules over obeying the commandments of God quoting directly from the Ten Commandments

Mat 15:3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; (Exo 20:12) and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 ‘These people [c]draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

So the antidote for false worship and not receiving the mark of the beast is keeping God's commandments- His version that sadly the majority teach we no longer need to keep, yet God told us to keep them. Whoever we obey is who we serve Rom 6:16

We see this play out at the end of time...

False worship

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

True worship. The antidote being faithful to God the way He said Ten Commandments

Rev 14: 12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

A beast is a Kingdom or political power Dan 7:23

The mark is something only the beast can define which it already has that is contrary to God's law, where is Sunday-keeping a commandment of God- God said the seventh day is the Sabbath Exo 20:10 which we were told this change contrary to God would happen Dan 7:25. The beast deceives the whole world so the only way to avoid the mark is to be faithful to God and His commandments the way He said- not a jot or tittle can be edited because no one is above God Deut 4:2 Psa 89:34 Mat 5:18

It's all about worshipping the antichrist/Satan and his system. This is something people will willingly do (thus receiving the mark) seeing how the entire world will wonder after him and they are deceived by the miracles and wonders he performs. They will believe he is the real messiah (disguised as an angel of light) That's why we have the warnings by Christ and Paul about deception and Paul states one must have the gospel armor on to be able to stand in the "evil" day. The timing is very important. It's all about Satan and the deception he puts on. Which happens before Christ returns. That's why so many can be deceived during that time, because they believe Christ comes first. But that's for another thread, another topic....

I happen to see the mark as more spiritual than anything. That being said, who knows what will come into play during that system.
