Ok thanks for the correction. We still have the effects of the sins of the fathers versus the blessings of the fathers. If it is not a spiritual item (hard to call it genes) what accounts for these varying predispositions? Also the Jews are in a sense somewhat blinded, I'll assume a spiritual cause but is it symbolic type of gene?
That's not clear to me. The soul was originally a Greek concept, and it ended up serving as an attempted scientific explanation for the behavior of living things. Thus, there were multiple kinds of souls: the vegetative, sensitive, and rational souls, accounting for plant, animal, and human capabilities. Its usefulness as a scientific explanation has been replaced in modern biology by much more complex and predictive concepts. What's left is a muddled idea about something that is involved in the physical but isn't itself physical and whose functions are poorly defined.
