  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your favorite Bible versions (not translation- KJV etc)

My wife and I probably have around 40 Bibles between the 2 of us. That includes little Gideon New Testaments given to me in elementary, and high school, as well as some we rescued from trash bins ( my wife carries one she saved out of her neighbor's trash that was put there by his family when he passed away), and a garage sale where they were buried under dozens of other books, toys, pages wrinkled, dog eared. I am currently carrying a Nelson study Bible that was found that way (only $.50!!).

I have read scriptures for almost 40 years, and in all of my reading, I always go back to my Thompson Chain Reference Bible. IMO, it it's the best: I haven't detected any bias towards any denomination, and once you learn the "chain reference" system, it is a great study Bible.

Thompson ranks #1 with me and the Key Word Hebrew- Greek Bible #2 Concordia makes a good reference Bible as we'll.

Anyone have a favorite, go-to Bible, no matter what other version they may be reading at the time?

I have many versions but not all, so I appreciate looking at any available Bible version, many times it's like discovering a gold nugget of precious value when the verse uses different words to convey the original meaning of the text.
Agree, having several options, and let's face it, several wordings to choose not only gives us the one that fits best, but, comes around to forwarding the same consensus as most of the versions together. I personally feel that gives those who don't have a Greek degree an edge over those who only trust the Greek.

Ya got me thinking of what ever happened to mine? I was loving the CR, the links in it start to become fluid, interesting. Been missing for decades. Time for update.

I got away from mine as well (I've had mine since '96), but listening to Derek Prince, had me going back to read it again (he sometimes refers to NIV texts, which is what my Thompson is), and I rediscovered how excellent the chain reference system is. Ollie's discount store recently had Thompson Bibles in NASB, but I shuddered at purchasing another Bible.

The story of how Frank C. Thompson, and his wife developed the system is pretty good as well.

The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge is another great resource, although the book version (that I own) can be cumbersome. I usually use Bible Hub's online version. Look for (TSK) to use it.

I see it as having an edge over those who for whatever reason don't compare every version.
