  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the Church of the Ascension School in Halethorpe, Father John Williamson found two statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary smashed when he toured the grounds Wednesday morning.

Police believe the two statues and a wall plaque were damaged Tuesday night.

“It’s very disheartening, and worrisome, to say the least,” said Father John Williamson. “There has been some vandalism in the neighborhood — kid stuff — but nothing quite on this level. We’ve had some issues with trash cans and stuff like that, kids pranks. This kind of raises it to a whole new level.”

Parishioners are shocked and disappointed.

“It’s very distressing,” said Roxanne Bernhardt. “I’ve been a parishioner here for 52 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s hard to understand something like that happening in our community. This is a very faith-filled community and this church.”
