CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm led to believe that SkyNews has a particular leaning and "reputation", and based on some of the questions.
They seem to be the "when did you stop beating your wife?" type of questions, where there's no good answer, and the whole point of the question is to make the recipient look bad (rather than being sincere inquiry) regardless of their answer, or whether or not they answer.
“Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning?" Blevins asked on an airport jetway.
"Do you regret cutting the fire department budget by millions of dollars, Madam Mayor?” the reporter pressed.
"Elon Musk says that you're utterly incompetent — are you considering your position?"
"No apology for them? Do you think you should have been visiting Ghana when this was unfolding back home?"
Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of Mayor Karen Bass, I think she's the latest in a long line of Mayors who've all had a hand in allowing a once-awesome city to turn into a "not so awesome" place.
But fair is fair, these loaded questions hardly represent honest journalism.
Just a particular point of reference.
A $17 million dollar re-allocation from a near billion-dollar Fire Dept budget has nothing do with the ability (or inability) to contain one of the largest fire outbreaks in US history. Is this journalist honestly trying to suggest that at 1.2% budget cut was the "difference maker" here?
Captiva & Sanibel Florida cut their Fire department's budget by 43% in 2023.
Tallahassee FL did a Fire Dept cut that was of equal proportion to the LA cut back in 2022.
Was SkyNews on the ground in those locations immediately following the hurricane to grill city & state officials about "Do you regret these cuts that could've contributed to operational deficiencies during this natural disaster?" Or does SkyNews reserve that sort of "aggressive loaded question" journalism only for leaders of high-profile blue cities?
In April 2023, during the unprecedented flooding emergency in Fort Lauderdale, Governor DeSantis was in Ohio for a book tour... did Sky give him any flak for that?

People who aren't official diplomats are often included in presidential delegations, particularly for significant international or ceremonial events. These individuals are often selected because of their expertise, connection to the event, or ability to represent the United States in a meaningful way.
George W Bush would often send James Baker, after he was no longer in the official role, on delegations due to the track record he'd built with certain world leaders back when he was secretary of state.
There's plenty of things to bash Bass about (and I have), but this isn't one of those things.
I mean, Trump just sent his son and Charlie Kirk over to Greenland, did he not?

No, but that has very little to do with the situation.
It's not as if she's going to add any value by physically being in the city vs communicating with people remotely. It's not like it's the mayor typically the out there with the hose and ladder fighting the fires.
Like I said, there's plenty to criticize her for in terms of how things have gone in the city in terms of policies. "Not being physically present in the city when a fire breaks out" isn't one of them.
That'd be like criticizing Bush because he was in a school doing story time with children when the planes struck the towers.

Effective leadership, cares to be in person, to those they are leading. Ineffective leadership does not. Effective leadership knows that their very physical presence is a strong comfort, a strong motivation, a strong stabilizing force. Ineffective leadership knows none of these things, and it may very well be, is none of these things.
