  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

‘Saturday Night Live’ fielded some serious criticism for their segment on the murder of Brian Thompson this weekend.

As a staunch defender of comedy, I'll be the first to say I hope that SNL doesn't give some graveling apology over these jokes (like they forced Pete Davidson to do after his jokes about Dan Crenshaw)

If people are going to complain about the "overly PC" crowd, then that critique needs to be consistent.

I'd defend these jokes for the same reasons I'd defend the Tony Hinchcliffe jokes.

Comedy (as a performance art) often delves into "edgy" or "shocking" subjects. Comedians shouldn't be punished for writing jokes about a topic.

lol, the Fox News article is just quoting a handful of randos on social media. The piece was not only tame and unfunny, but not original, either. People online had been making those jokes for days.

They didn't do a whole sketch about it and kept it just to two update jokes.

I'd say SNL is relatively tame.
That was the same context in which Pete Davidson was telling a joke about Dan Crenshaw, and was forced to give an apology the following week.

He was doing a quick bit on Weekend Update, and told the joke that Crenshaw looked like a hitman in a porno movie, and they forced him to apologize.
