  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If Christmas really is about Jesus
It should be about the One who freed us
The One who delivered us from slavery
So that we can now live for Him bravely

We should all be living for Him truly
Doing what His word teaches us duly
Giving honor to Him living daily
Doing what He says we’re to do gaily

We should share of the gospel with others
Including with our sisters and brothers
We should tell of His life, death, and message
Telling of how He died to now bless us

For He lived and He died to deliver
The ones who are living as believers
Whose lives are committed to now serve Him
Because now from their sins He has freed them

Christmas originated from a combination of pagan and Roman celebrations:

  • Pagan celebrations
Pagans celebrated the winter solstice by lighting bonfires and candles to bring back the light after the darkest day of the year. They also decorated their homes with greenery, such as evergreen trees, to symbolize the coming of spring.

  • Roman celebrations
The Romans celebrated two holidays in December:
    • Saturnalia: A two-week festival that honored the god of agriculture, Saturn. People feasted and exchanged gifts.

    • The birth of Mithra: A celebration of the sun god, Mithra, on December 25.
The Catholic Church in Rome began celebrating Christmas on December 25 in 336 CE to replace the pagan celebrations. The church chose this date to attract non-Christian followers who celebrated the solstice. The Bible doesn't mention the timing of Jesus' birth, so church leaders declared December 25th the official Christmas holiday.

What is the message you are trying to convey here about Christmas? How are you connecting that to the poem? I am not understanding.

Yep, many of the holidays are connected to paganism

There is a passage in the Bible that always reminds of Christmas today.

For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut down a tree from the forest; it is shaped with a chisel by the hands of a craftsman. They adorn it with silver and gold and fasten it with hammer and nails, so that it will not totter.… Jeremiah 10:3
