  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Two teenage runners have sued their high school after being forbidden from wearing “Save Girls’ Sports” T-shirts, saying they were told by school officials that the “hostile” messages were tantamount to swastikas.

The lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California seeks to overturn the speech code at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, which prohibits clothing with messages “likely to create a hostile or intimidating environment based on any protected class.”

The motion also asks the court to declare that the Riverside Unified School District has “violated Title IX by failing to provide equal treatment, benefits, and opportunities for girls in athletic competition.”

I think men playing in women sports will be short lived. It is so ridiculous, that even hard core liberals will turn from it. Although I feel sorry for the women and girls caught in this period of insanity.

Teams that snipe and undermine one another are losing teams with toxic atmospheres.
Without judging the ruling one way or another, all I can say is that if a team wants to be successful they have to set aside their differences and work together.

So only wanting girls to play on girls sports is comparable to nazism?

That’s a slap in the face to all the Jewish people who died in the Holocaust.

So embarrassing.

I just don't think that applies here. Or at the very least, that can go both ways. Shouldn't the trans athlete recognize that, because they have a biological advantage, they are depriving all the biological females on the team of an opportunity that should, in my opinion, rightly be theirs? It's like saying they need to rally behind a teammate who cheats by taking HGH or a similar performance-enhancing drug, in my opinion.

I don't 100% agree with the way they handled it. (Personally, I would have forgone the t-shirts and just taken it to court. But I can understand why they would have wanted to protest.) I'm not a lawyer, but I think the claim that it is a violation of title IX is completely valid.

The link in the OP didn't work for me, but here's a snippet from another article:

According to the lawsuit, M.L. did not train for as many hours with the team, and did not show up to all required events. And yet, M.L., who posted faster times, was given a top spot, and T.S. was knocked out of the “Team Sweepstakes” portion of the Mt. SAC meet. T.S., the lawsuit said, thus “missed opportunities to compete at a high-profile meet, losing valuable chances for college recruitment and recognition.”
