  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The ISRO (India's space program) says it plans on having a station orbiting the Moon by 2040 and a crewed Lunar flyby in 2035. Here this the article at Space.com

The article discusses several other plans such as a return of Lunar materiel to Earth for study.

The plans seem pretty ambitious. I do with them the best in their space exploration efforts.

This makes US Space Force and Space X's ambition to push the boundaries on the moon or Mars all the more important.

By 2040 there will probably already be a US moon base and a man on Mars. This is all the more likely as it is a probable condition of Musk's cooperation with Trump to see space pushed in a way that it hasn't been since President Johnson.

I wonder how sustainable a permanent Human presence can be beyond Low Earth Orbit. The radiation, lack of hospitable environment make a Human presence very difficult. I wonder how useful in situ resource utilization is in reality. Are there other resources out there that can make the journey and Human presence worthwhile. It is possible. The M class asteroid 16 Psyche may have quite a bit of useful material; however, such a large quantity of metals hitting the economy may make some metal values plummet.

All speculation on my part and not very useful to anyone.

Regarding radiation, the defense is to live underground or better underwater. Dust will be a problem on Mars as will toxins in the dust and its interaction with air at Earth pressures, filtration systems will be very important as well as developing local supplies of water, fuel and air. Not having gravity for prolonged periods is bad for eyesight and bone mass. You can rotate the spacecraft to counter that. You need a safe space to hide from solar storms.

Space X has a craft nearing completion with the starship/superheavy combo which could make the trip to the moon or Mars but they need to put more thought into the habitation modules and the trip. I think they will need to put some kind of rotator around the starship or even combine several starships into some kind of rotating ring while in flight to create artificial gravity.
