  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They probably were. There were several eyewitness reports of such activity. Haitians have been mass-migrated from a third-world country with starvation conditions. Do you think Haitians are just too proper and dignified to eat an animal they find on the street? I doubt you would be able to explain what makes Trump's claim so far-fetched.
No they weren't. Anymore than Trump is eating dogs and cats. Do you think was is too proper? The average Haitian is far more dignified than Trump. He is disgusting.

Trump's claim was disproved by the mayors of the towns that were involved plus the woman who originally posted the story, as a joke. She didn't think that stupid people would believe it.

my goodness, the text messages have been released and the FEMA official is on video testifying that they did not offer help to houses with Trump flags in the disaster zones. How can you pretend this never happened?
Your claim was:
Federal Emergency agencies are intentionally withholding hurricane-relief aid from Trump supporters.

That claim was a lie. Fema, or no other Federal agency was withholding funds from Trump supporters. The fact is, one low level supervisor told a small group to pass up homes with Trump flags. About 20 homes were skipped. That supervisor was fired, immediately, and the homes skipped over were visited to ensure they received what they needed.

FEMA is not one supervisor.

how about you first give a reasoned argument why it is so far-fetched an idea that people who lived in a starvation-stricken 3rd-world country two seconds ago might kill and eat the local animals. Go ahead.
Even after the person who started that rumor said that it was a joke you‘re still saying it? LOL.

The first choice of a person coming to Ohio from a violence-stricken country would be to get a job and use the paycheck to buy food at the grocery store, for the same reason that that would be your first choice if you had to flee your home country.

This PBS NewsHour report on Haitian-born residents of Springfield, Ohio, is informative: PBS News Hour | Ohio city with Haitian migrant influx thrust into spotlight | Season 2024 . The early part of the piece describes some of the jobs that Haitians have been employed at in the city, and at 3:04 we hear: "[ Luckens ] Merzius said he came to Springfield for the same reason most Haitians did. He heard that housing was cheap and jobs were plentiful."

Now, you've said you saw eyewitness reports of people eating pets in Springfield. Please cite your source.

that's a pretty ethnocentric response. you're projecting what you would do, as someone whose lived in a first-world country their whole life, surrounded by jobs, paychecks, and fully stocked grocery stores.

Okay? What's your point? Some Haitians are more resourceful than others? This is just as anecdotal as the claims that some are eating animals in town.

Now, you've said you saw eyewitness reports of people eating pets in Springfield. Please cite your source.

"The craze began with an August meeting of the Springfield City Commission, where a 28-year-old man claimed — without evidence — that Haitian migrants were beheading ducks at local parks and taking them home to eat.

“They’re in the park grabbing up ducks by they neck and cutting they head off and walking up with them and eating them,” the man said, imploring the commission to rein in the migrants.

Another woman at a previous meeting said she’d seen migrants field-dressing roadkill on the side of the highway, and snatching park birds to cook up in “some barbaric stew.”

I noticed you never explained why it is a crazy or far-fetched idea that people from a third-world country with mass famine/starvation conditions would eat local animals found in town.

Do you now concede that there is a good chance this may be happening, at least to some degree?

I didn't say funds. I said aid, as in help.

The fact is, one low level supervisor told a small group to pass up homes with Trump flags. About 20 homes were skipped.

in other words, it was really happening and not an imaginary conspiracy theory.

That supervisor was fired, immediately, and the homes skipped over were visited to ensure they received what they needed.

FEMA is not one supervisor.

how convenient that you're leaving out her testimony that other FEMA locations were also denying help to homes with Trump flags.

there were also many on the ground reports that private parties were being denied access by federal agencies when they tried to get aid and rescue services in the hurricane-stricken areas.

and again, why exactly is this "conspiracy theory" so hard to believe? swathes of the federal government hate Trump supporters and have been brainwashed to believe they are all nazi, racist insurrectionists. None of you seem able to explain why it's a crazy idea that they might act on their beliefs.

I provided your quote and funds are aid. FEMA was providing what the governors were requesting. Homes visited by FEMA may receive help each needs. Some don't qualify and some do.

I didn't leave anything out. The latest news has the employee saying that she hasn't been asked to testify. If you have her direct testimony, please provide it.

She did say in an interview that she was following FEMA procedures but that does not exist. She may have interrupted a procedure incorrectly, though.

And there are press statements from Republican governors saying that those reports are false and that FEMA has given them everything that they requested.
